People Magazine and quilting

I didn't read this, so I have sketchy info here.... While in a waiting room today H was reading the current copy of People magazine and discovered that Arnold Schwarzenegger made his wife (with help) a memory quilt for her BD or anniversary or something. H says it said that A went to many quilt shows to get ideas about design and fabrics and such. He spent a year working on it. I'll have to read that article to get more info.

Aparently he did photo prints on the puter and cut the blocks and someone helped put them together and he had a pro quilt it.

Anyone have this issue? Could you fill in the blanks?

Hi LN, the story about the quilt gift is true-Arnold told the story in an interview which he gave recently - it was a Mother's Day gift, I think. I don't remember which show I was watchng that he was on, possibly one of the entertainment news shows after he had announced his candidacy. The idea behind the question had to do with his romantic nature as I remember it. Jennifer in Ottawa

Here's the goods straight form the People website

Now that he is running for office, the truth must be told: Arnold Schwarzenegger makes quilts. That's right, Mr. Tough Guy Terminator with hundreds of movie kills to his credit made a Mother's Day quilt for his wife, Maria, a few years ago. Okay, so he didn't actually sew it himself. But he did screen family images onto fabric swatches and have them hand-stitched together. "It included photos, their wedding invitation, birth announcements, handprints of the kids, and he picked everything out," says Wanda McDaniel Ruddy, one of the bridesmaids at the Schwarzeneggers' 1986 wedding and still a close family friend. "He spent a year creating this quilt, and now it's their bedspread. Arnold is very sentimental."

In other words, Arnold printed off some pictures and hired one or more persons to make the quilt. He *commissioned* a quilt, but did not make it. Still, he was thoughtful, and expended time and energy to select and process the pictures and so on.

Gee, I'm singing to the choir here ... hey, People Magazine Editor: if he did not sew it, he did not make a quilt. Sheesh, a kindergartner could figure that out.

Oh, I *am* really impressed with the thought and effort! It is lovely to read/hear when someone does something special like this for the family. So much more interesting than reading about those

4 Karat Purple diamonds and so on. Even just sorting and processing the photos is giving of time, requires careful decisions, and is most considerate. I'd be delighted for someone to sort our photos and make up the transfers. Heck, I'd even make the quilt myself!! (Maybe Maria can't quilt!)

The cost of that diamond is not something I'd willingly pay! Taria

Not for long! They're making flawless *ethical* diamonds in the lab now.

Pretty soon it will be $5/karat. I'll pay that.

So glad Arnold can quilt. I think everyone should be able to do something well.

Howdy! Special effects. And a stunt double.

Doesn't make him a quilter, tho'. Any more than he was a pregnant in one of his typically horrible movies.

I decline comment, Lynne.
