Difference between Magic Box, Amazing Box and Others?

hey all;

First.... PLEASE BEAR WITH ME... Computers are my thing and not sewing, but please read on, as I am in need of some guidance. I have been reviewing this newsgroup "threads" and so far have not found an answer...

My wife is getting into this embroidery stuff, She has a Babylock machine and really wants to start expanding on what she can do with the Machine. She has heard a lot about the Magic Box and the Amazing Box, so I thought I would buy her another gift... one of these things that she will be able to "burn" more designs on the memory card.. and if this goes well, expand that to the software so she can design and scan in designs from her computer and then transfer these onto memory cards. All that said, I asked her to look into the first option of getting a magic box type of device, what is out there and prices.... well, as it turns out there are quite a few type of these devices. So far it seems as if the Amazing Box (4 card option) is the right one for her, but I am looking to all you experts (or those with more experience than her) for some guidance as to what type of "system" she should get that will give her the most flexibility for current use and future use (i.e. that is 1. a good price, 2. will allow her to copy other people's cards even though they are not the babylock, PES format, and 3. has good options... add'l memory card, extra designs with the purchase... and 4. of most importance why one over another?)

I really appreciate any feedback, and understanding that my stichery lingo may not be correct.

Thanks for any assistance... Curt

Hi Curt, I have both brother and pfaff embroidery machines so I bought the Magic Box which is exactly the same as the Amazing Box. The limitation with the Magic Box is you cannot "save" the designs to your computer and you can only write

Curt, I have owned 2 amazing boxes that have just completely died on me. I will never buy another "generic" reader/writer box. I bought the Brother PED-Basic, comes with a 5 year warranty on the electronics, which seems to be crap on the generics, which is why my 2 boxes bit the dust. Another thing they didn't tell me before I purchased, was the fact that the box may not work on "home-built" computers. What kind of crock is that? Am I supposed to go buy a "proprietory" machine so I can write to the card? No way! My advise is to stick with the brand of machine you have for the writer box. It's more money, but well worth it to me. The 2 amazing boxes I bought cost more than the Brother box and they are worthless now. Good luck.
