Here's what I had in mind, remembering that the strips are short and crooked, and the block is misaligned. But I think you get the idea. These blocks are only going to be at the head of the quilt, the other sides will be filled with the dark red large triangles, then a narrow dark red border, the pieced border, and another dark red border.
