Question about Fat quarters and fat eights

Hi All, Another question: do you prewash fat quarters and fat eights? How do you do this? Usually I just toss the fabric into the washer and then the dryer. It doesn't matter if the ends fray on large pieces of fabric, but on a fat quarter or fat eight it might make a big difference.

I toss them right in and trim the frayed edges off, but that's me. Washing them in a lingerie bag will take care of the frayed edges problem. So will hand washing by dipping them in a little soapy water, rinsing and ironing dry.

You can wash them in an underwear bag. But IMO, it's much better just to buy a large piece to begin with. I do buy FQs occasionally, but a FE is just too small. Roberta in D

I didn't really understand people who bought FE's, but that was before I understood appliqué and art quilts. Sometimes you need lots of different colours but only small bits, and that can start getting very expensive if you have to buy 1 meter cuts.

I also enjoy applique and started of buying Scrap Bags and charm squares so any small ( even 1" square) are ideal for me

You are right of course, and I generally avoid appliqué. But IMO that's what scraps are for! Roberta in D, Queen of the Scrap Heap
