Quilt Exhibit at Illinois State Museum

I was in Springfield, IL, this past Thursday for Library Legislative Day. Between lunch and the bus's departure there was some free time so I went to the Illinois State Museum at the south edge of the Capitol complex. Was I glad I did!

"Gifted Quilts" is the current special exhibition:

are 30+/- in the exhibit, not overwhelming, and representthe mid-19th century to today. The three "mosaic" quilts by Albert Small of Ottawa, IL, are mounted side by side in the exhibit.

cut the hexagons smaller for #2 and even smaller for #3 --in #3, he got 6,000 hexes from a yard of fabric! (In those daysit would have been 36" wide.) If you plan to travel downstate, it's worth stopping. (And if you haven't been to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library, there's another good reason to visit Spfld.)
