Quilt Sampler magazine

Quilt Sampler magazine has been showcasing top 10 quilt shops once or twice a year for many years now. Do any of you know if there is a list of all the shops that have been featured over the years? I've googled about every way I can think of and only come up with one shop at a time. I'm going on a road trip later this week and thought it would be fun to have a list with me to check against my "Quilters Travel Companion". Several of the listings in the book have notations that they have been included in the magazine, but it would be nice to have a full list to check out for all future trips. Anyone know of such a list??? KJ

I googled the following text: "American patchwork" top 10 quilt shops

and that brought back a bunch of links to shops that had been listing -- you could probably find a bunch that way.

Still not the best way.

Have you thought about calling the publisher? editor of Quilt Sampler?

Maybe we could see here who has the past issues and they could dig out and post and we could compile our own list!

Good Luck

I bet you're right about that Jennell. (That the editors don't want the list easily accessed.) I bet the shop owners wouldn't mind though! I have a few of the Sampler magazines...but I quit buying them a couple years ago. I'll check out the shop hop list. Thanks for your input! KJ

Howdy!

"Top 10" list is open to opinion. These are shops that have agreed to the guidelines set out by the magazine people, things like designing a pattern just for that issue--something many shop owners don't have the time or interest to do, setting aside a large block of time to prep and photograph the shop, other hoops that have to be jumped thru'...or quilted over. Just because a shop is showcased in the magazine doesn't mean it's better than 9 others in the same area or that it's as good now as it was 10 yrs. ago. We all know of many shops that are out of business or have changed names &/or owners, including some of those featured in the Q.S. mag. For great quilt shops quilters are the best resource, ask and we'll tell. Where ya' goin'? What do you think makes a good shop? How big is your stash? How long will it be unattended? (I'm only asking for Butterfly, of course.) ;-D

Cheers! Ragmop/Sandy--who will gladly recommend several of the shops in n.Tx.; just let me know... including one that was in Q.S. mag last year

I have no doubt that you have hit the nail on the head with the guidelines for inclusion in the magazine. However, from my understanding, these shops have been nominated by customers as being remarkable in some way. They do have that going for them. And they all look to be well stocked and attractive shops that would be worthy of a look/see. I was just using that magazines choices as a good starting point to research stop offs. I think my trusty "Quilters Travel Companion" book has given us more than enough stopovers on our way from Iowa to Naples, Florida. I'll just stick with that. KJ

I received the April 2007 issue of BHG American Patchwork & Quilting to read a full page ad for another spin-off magazine.

"Best of Quilt Sampler" magazine hits the newsstands on march 6th!! Further to numerous requests from readers regarding previously visited quilt shops - the powers that be have decided to publish an additional magazine which will revisit 20 of the shops. This is not the answer to KJ's original question but another money-maker for the magazine, I suppose.........jennellh (change the mail to news)

I saw that too Jennell. It's "close" to what I was asking for, isn't it? I stopped buying those issues a couple years ago after realizing there wasn't much that interested me in them. The shop patterns were pretty ho hum for the most part....a few exceptions certainly. The locations weren't likely to be on my route for road trips....and if they were....the probablility that it would be remembered at trip time was slim. KJ
