magazine?

I know this topic isn't new but now that Scrapbook answers is history I would like to raise the question again. Which magazine is worth it's money? How about Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Magazine for example?

Susannne..this is my favourite UK magazine Scrapbook Inspirations

It is fresh, new and modern and has a sister mag Papercraft Inspirations. You get nice usuable freebies most months :o) This month it was a round mini album :o) I have bought a few select Creating Keepsakes but I wouldn't subscribe. Often the supplies featured are months ahead of UK distribution...if they ever become available here. It all becomes frustrating for me and the magazines are double the price of UK mags anyway. Just wanted to say also I had lost interest in the Scrapbook Answers before my sub had run out. Personally, I won't miss it! I was not certainly not happy when the second last magazine delivery was a sort of home decor edition. I quickly skimmed it and tossed it to one side complaining about the cost for something I wouldn't have normally bought! Nothing to do with scrapbooking and aimed at a selective market. IMV that isn't what I paid for and should never have been included in a subscription for a scrapbooking magazine. Perhaps others felt the same...hence the magazines demize!

I had already decided not to subscribe again and am glad I didn't since they have now ceased publication! I just hope people have no probs getting their money back for unfulfilled subscriptions.

I love Scrapbook Inspirations. It is a UK magazine and I have to haunt the local Barnes & Noble to make sure I get a copy (and they run $8) but it is worth it. UK scrappers have a different style from US scrappers and I really like it. My one beef is that they don't include supply lists with all their layouts, most but not all.

I recieved a subscription to CK as a gift and I do enjoy it. I will flip through SS in the book store but usually only end up buying their special editions. The December issue of MM was crap but they just changed hands so hopefully the future holds better things.

Go to your local bookstore (with a cafe) get a tasty hot beverage and a stack of magazines to flip through and see what appeals to you.

sorry to hijack but Marylin I will be in Edinburgh for 4 days in November. Any local scrapbooking stores that shouldn't be missed? Any other local sights I should put on the must see list?

Lenora,

Check out this link as most of the places to try and see are listed at the bottom of the page.

Probably the most notable will be Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace and The Royal Mile for speciality gift shopping. Princes Street is the main shopping thoroughfare, with Princes Street Gardens on the opposite side of the road, which are directly below the Castle. Scott's Monument and the National Art Gallery are all in the same area, within easy walking distance. You may also want to go have a look at the Leith Harbour area. This used to be a really old industrial part of Edinburgh but it is undergoing some regeneration because they built the new Scottish Executive building in Leith. There is a new Ocean Terminal where you can shop and the port of Leith is home of the Royal Yacht Britannia since she was de-commisioned. Not sure if visitors are allowed onboard but you could check with the Edinburgh & Lothian Tourist Board

There is probably a few arts and crafts shops that keep some scrapbooking supplies but as far as I am aware no dedicated scrapbooking store. Lakeland Limited (off Princes Street) have a scrapbooking dept.

but I doubt you will find much that you cannot buy cheaper in the US. I do all my SB shopping online! Hope that helps in some way :o)

I started picking up Scrapbooking & Beyond at the store when I can find it. I really liked the October issue. The LO's range from simple to elaborate and have instructions and material lists for most. Sandy

Thanks for your advise Lenora. Unfortunatly the book store isn't an option for me right now since they don't carry scrapbooking magazines. But after my move to Berlin next month I'll have to find out if there is anything available in the bookstores there. I already found an LSS :).

I don't like any of them. Most of them just have layouts and ads and articles that try to get you to buy something so they are like ads. I haven't any that really had how to articles that was about some layout. I would like to find something that covers techniques for using paints, pens and the like. Not just a bunch of layouts that frankly aren't all that interesting.

I have to agree. I liked Scrapbook Answers because it was different and they actually showed you how to do different things. After subscribing to a half dozen magazines over the last few years I am no longer renewing when I get the notices. To me it always looks like the layout was done first and then the picture was staged to compliment the layout rather than the other way around.

Ladies, I have the book for you. It is called CHERISH. It is sold by Close to my Heart, but it is also available in most major book stores. The author Jeannette Lynton is the founder and CEO of CTMH. This book has over 50 layouts, and at the bottom of each of the pages with layouts, it has a tips and techniques reference, which are all located in the back of the book. It retails for $21.95 the best book I have ever owned. It is so versital, It tells you how many sheets of cardstock you need for each layout as well as patterned papers, with cutting guides for every layout. If you don't like the way a layout looks on the page, turn it around, mix it up a little. I love this book. It is better than any magazine that I have ever bought. You can get it on my website,

Drop the Glue Dots, and no one will get hurt!

I have to admit that I also was a little disappointed in the October issue. I dont't really know why but I didn't enjoy it as much as I had expected after waiting for it for 4 months. But I only got 3 issues out of my subscription since I moved this summer and they somehow weren't able to make the change faster. I liked the first issue I got and the last I just got the other day so I coulnd't really look into it yet. But what I really liked about all three was the CD.

The only scrapbooking magazine I've ever found worth my money to subscribe to is Lasting Moments Magazine. No other scrapbooking magazine has ever excited me like Lasting Moments, I literally sit and read every page cover to cover. As far as I know it's not available on News Stands, though honestly I've never looked cuz I subscribe. Here's a link:

I was wishing I had a copy to puruse before I commited to a subscription, but wow I'm tempted after reading their Money Back Guarantee.

"YOUR 100% MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE! If Lasting Moments doesn't enhance your overall album-making enjoyment and ensure your success - we'll refund your money, all of it, first issue or last. That's our promise to you."
