I'm looking at subscribing to a scrapbooking magazine. So far I've looked at Better homes and Gardens Scrapbooks, etc., Creative Keepsakes and Simple Scrapbooks. I've watched a PBS show by the people at Simple Scrapbooks, but I didn't find that mag as good as the tv show. CK seems to have a lot of special issues. If you subscribe, do you get those sent to you too, or do you need to go buy them? What's the one mag you couldn't do without? Kathy
I currently subscribe to two magazines, Memory Makers and Scrapbook Answers, and buy most of the others regularly. My favorite by far is Scrapbook Answers. It's different from the others in the way it presents layouts that are much more my style than the professional looking, overly artistic ones in most other magazines, and they are great at showing new techniques in a way that I can follow, and try out. Plus they have a wonderful disk of layout ideas, techniques, videos, photos, and other goodies with each issue. They're a bit more expensive than most others because of the disks, but I think well worth it. The other mags seem to be basically the same. I'm not sure I will maintain my MM subscription, though I will probably continue to buy the magazine. I like BHG Scrapbook, as they seem to have a lot of variety. One magazine I wish I could get more often is an Australian one called Paper Crafts. My LSS carries it sometimes, and I grab one when I can. It covers a lot of stuff besides scrapbooking, and I love the different techniques and ideas. Hope this helps!
Overseas mags are kinda expensive over here, so apart from our local mags, I buy my CK's one month late, as they are half price then. I still think CK is the best SB mag as far as consistency goes. There are a few Ozzy mags I've paged at the newsagency that also look good.
I've subscribed to Creative Keepsakes and Simple Scrapbooks. Right now I'm subscribed to Scrapbook Answers. I find that I like them all for one reason or another. I'm liking switching magazines from year to year. So, I say just pick one and at the end of the year switch. :)
I've subscribed to several different ones it the past but right now I'm getting a brand new one called Canadian Scrapbooker and so far I really like it! Barb:o)
I'm partial to PaperKuts myself. Some of the magazines get too far into altering different items, and lots of embellishments that seem to overkill a LO. Sandy
Thanks everyone for your replies. I looked at Scrapbook Answers, but because of the disc it was shrink-wrapped, so I didn't buy it. My time at the computer is somewhat limited (or I try to limit it), so I think that one will be out for now. I forgot all about PaperKuts, which I've seen before. I especially liked the idea to subscribe to one and flip to another one next year. Maybe that's the best answer!
Thanks everyone for your help-much appreciated! Kathy
Kathy I subscribe to Scrapbook Answers, but rarely use the content on the CD. The CD usually contains fonts, sample programs, background paper and some demonstration videos. The magazine is well worth the price and great with or without the CD.
SCRAPBOOK ANSWERS!!!! It beats the stuffing out of all the others by far!! I just subscribed to it as the hassle of trying to find one to buy was rather aggravating!! It is one of the MANY I have bought, borrowed or whatever that I actually glean something out of it and can and have tried some of the techniques in it.
Okay Cathy and Dave-I'll be sure to pick one up next weekend before I make my final decision. I just found out I'm getting a bonus at work, so heck I might splurge and subscribe to all three. I'm still in shock at having the extra $$$ though! It's good to know that its well worth it without using the CD-DH just got a new computer game (Mechwarrior 4) and has been hogging the computer. I'm only online right now because 24 is on, and he is on the big screen and I'm watching in the bedroom-where the computer is.
Again-thank you for the input-I very much appreciate everyone's comments. Kathy
Hi Kathy. Right now my fave is a British one that I found at Michaels. It's called Creative Scrapbooking. I don't have any subs to any mags. I think I'd get bored w/ the same one every month. I like to flip through them and see if anything catches my eye. I usually use my coupons to get mags.
Different Michaels must carry different mags-I was just at ours tonight purusing and they only had Creating Keepsakes and some card making mags. Not even a BH&G, if you can believe that. I guess I never checked there before. When I get the chance, I'll stop at another one in the area (benefits to living in an area with multiple Michaels). Thanks for the input, I'll watch out for that one.
