What's your favorite way to ignore Super Bowl Sunday? lol

I tried to ignore it - really I did! Two weeks ago (after the Giants beat the Packers) I swore I wouldn't watch the Super Bowl this year. In fact, I said I'd watch the commercials but not the game. But darn, as the time got closer, I started to cave. Mom and her DH will be over for dinner first, and then the four of us will watch. BUT, I will be working on a quilt while it's on, so it won't have my full attention!

Going out to eat with my family to celebrate my son's birthday...no TV there, I hope. Us Wisconsinites won't be watching it.

Hi Karen, no problem for me - I record all the 'other' types of tv programs that I want to watch - there are plenty of choices plus I have a backlog of recordings - no football will find its way into my world today. Same is true for other sporting events except for singles tennis - I still record all of those games and no one (I mean NO ONE is allowed to discuss the results with me until I have caught up with those matches) - I avoid the news programs during grand slams just in case any sports trivia comes up before the sports segment. I am planning on doing some finishing quilting later on - a belated Xmas gift, no less - this is for the lady who kindly has brought my copy of Patti's book over from England for me - she will be joining us for a family supper one day soon - then I shall see my copy of the book for the first time and we shall be exchanging Xmas gifts then also. When I visited my lqs on Thurs - I came away with 4 packs of charms to play with plus one of Marti Michell's drunkard's path set of templates (the large size) - always something new to try. All the cats are sleeping (they know when it is my computer time as well as my sewing time so they go away to dream about new ways to torment me later). It is very quiet here to say the least - perfect for doing whatever I feel like doing to pass the time of day. jennellh

Quilt while watching the dogs and puppies and kitties on Animal Planet until the bowl game actually starts. Watch the game. Use halftime to take a quick shower or do a bit more stitching, and then watch the end of the game! (Quilt during the game, too! They always show a replay of anything interesting, and you can glance up to watch the replay.)

Sewing, of course! I have no interest in the Super Bowl at all, unless the Packers are playing, and even then, I'd probably not watch the whole thing. DH will, of course, be watching -- or maybe napping, but he won't admit it :). And I'll be sewing or on the computer.

What is a super bowl? VBG We had a "Souper Bowl Sunday" at church- collecting money for the local food pantry and homeless shelter. That's as close as I'll ever get to any kind of "bowl".

Not exactly Superbowl related but -

Over here in Victoria Australia we ("they" I should say - I have always been an outcast!) take football REALLY seriously. The dedicated fans would put even your Superbowl fanatics to shame.

Many many years ago a local journalist started the Anti-Football League. For a small fee (all donated to charity) you got a lapel pin (a square football) and the chance to go on their trip on Grand Final weekend.

On the Friday before the big game (played on Saturday) they invited a celebrity to the centre of the MCG (a stadium seating 100k plus and scene of the match next day) and had them ceremonially shoot a football. Then those going on the trip piled into buses and went off for three days of guaranteed no-newspapers, no-radio, no-TV travel and fine dining. They maintained that when you got home on Sunday night you wouldn't know who had won!

I never went on any of the trips but I was a member of the AFL for many years - to the utter disbelief and disgust of my football-loving family. I wore my lapel pin proudly, even though at times I think I was placing my life in serious jeopardy to do so.

The then VFL (Victorian Football League) has long since changed its title to AFL (Australian Football League - grossly pretentious in my view as the game remains primarily a Victorian obsession). Whenever I see their logo I still associate it with the "original" AFL with fond memories.

My sympathies are entirely with those trying to avoid the tidal wave of broadcast sports obsession across the US this weekend - although I do love to see those fabulous ads that cost so much lol

Maybe someone should start an Anti-FL over there?? rofl Or would that be grounds for justifiable manslaughter in a court of law?

Unfortunately, here in Phoenix, almost Glendale, it is impossible to totally ignore it. sigh. Plus having the FBR Open (major golf tournament) happening this week too. Staying home and away from all traffic is the only thing to do.

My wife, who will be watching the Stupor bowl downstairs, will be drowned out by Jazz and Blues, on my Ipod, and the pages turning in my book on Central Asia, that I am reading, and the sweet sound of Mr. Bernina, chugging away, in the Sewing room. Note: in this sewing room the machine is called Mr. Bernina. Thank you, and smile when you say that, pardner.

Favorite way? Well, that would be quilting/sewing. Reality, doing my taxes, paying bills, lesson planning, and then quilting. Bert and I have no interest whatsoever in the game.

On a side note, one of the girls in class on Friday, who is a standout on the basketball team, asked if I would be watching the game. My response off the cuff, "Oh dear God no, are you kidding?" Which elicited a good laugh from the class and they continued with their Microsoft Office, Chapter 8 Word. So we took a break, I recounted how I recoil from any ball coming in my direction, except when I was in high school and was a maniac for soccer and had no fear. That lead to a showing of my senior picture from, gasp, 29 years ago, that I had brought to school for the yearbook class for a page they are doing. That led to a laugh. Hair is mostly short, gray, and straight now, when it used to be long, curly and red. "Mr. Cook had a fro" was the common line.

So no, I'll be doing something else, but I will find out who won so that I can say to Ashley, "So I see the ???'s won." She'll be impressed.

Off to get the chores done so that I can get to the fun stuff.

I love the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet, will Tivo it so I can fast forward to the good bits ie: anything with a Golden Retreiver Puppy, anything particularly cute and the kitten half time show. My mom and I did a bit of shopping this afternoon, though no quilt shops today. She went home to watch the game as she is a big Patriots fan, but DH went off to watch with his friends, so I don't have to follow through with my offer to sit in the room and pretend to watch, which I made when he thought he might watch it at home.
