My son and his wife lost their baby last night. Dr said it was caused by the type of flu she had last week-end. And NOW they are broke down in Marion, Il.
PLEASE, right now they need all the prayer they can get, so can I for that matter.
I'm so sorry, is this the one you just heard about last week?
I'm not a doctor or midwife, but have been on the fringes of maternity care for a while and my understanding is that miscarriages are rarely related to infections, there are a couple which can cause miscarriage and stillbirth, but flu isn't one of them. By far the most common cause of miscarriage is "blighted ovum", where the egg that resulted in the pregnancy just isn't up to becoming a baby and it can't be attributed to any specific cause. It's a fine line to tread between giving the grieving parents something to blame and risking creating fear for future pregnancies, there is probably nothing she should or could have done differently and the same for future pregnancies.
Saying a prayer that they will be comforted and that any physical symptoms for her will be resolved swiftly.
I want to thank you all for your prayers. DH sent them the money they needed so they were able to start for home again. I haven't heard yet but I am sure they made it home fine. Will let you all know as soon as I find out for sure.
I lost a few before treatment and James, so they have all my sympathy and prayers on that score. The further you are along the worse it is, I feel. Mine were all very early. Love and hugs to you all in this time of sorrow and anxiety, and hopes they get home safe after the breakdown.
