good thoughts and prayers needed

Had an early call from my SIL this morning. Pop is back in the h ospital. HE had developed pneumonia after his last surgery and fluid was filling his lungs. They got it drained, but they are filling back up again, so surgery is scheduled sometime today. Sally is heading up to the hospital right now to see what is going on. Apparently he developed an infection from the last visit and the antibiotics aren't working on it.

Basically, they have said that there is a good chance that he won't make it through this surgery. Sally and I are trying to prepare the boys (Norman and Ken) and I will probably have to be the one to call Kevin in CA to let him know, but this is their father that we are talking about and it's going to hit them really hard. Sally said that Pop has gone from a robust 210 down to a boney 137 and has basically just given up.

Please keep the family in your prayers as we wait and see what is going on.

((((((HUGS)))))) and prayers on the way. The hardest thing is telling someone of a death. I hope this duty does not fall to you at this time, and Pop rallies once more.

Larisa, My thoughts and prayers go with you and your family, I lost my mother a year ago and I know how hard it is, sounds like he might have congestive heart failure along with maybe some COPD.

Like I said, will be praying for your dad and all invovled.

It is a really tough call to make or get. My heart goes out to you all.

An old gal asked my dad not long ago if he was afraid to die. At almost 82 he assured her it was one of the transitions we all go through. I'll try to remember that when his time comes. That said, it still sucks.

Prayers to you all at such a difficult time. Taria

Well, the latest we have heard is that Pop made it rhough surgery, and is in ICU. Sally (SIL) is supposed to call me with any new information, but I haven't heard from her yet. Kevin (BIL in CA who had surgery on his neck last month) called and made sure that I had all info in case I had to go through the Red Cross to reach him - he figured that Norman (next oldest from Ken) wouldn't know everything they needed, and knew that Ken and I are the responsible ones .

That said, Ken and I had a slight disagreement over who all would be making the trip if it was needed. HE didn't want us with him, but I reminded him that, as his wife, I should be with him and that is the end of that! Also told him that, of all the wives, I was probably the only one who wouldn't feed the boys emotional pap. They have the right to be sad if they lose their father, but that is no excuse for them to act like idiots - both of us have familes that tend to behave like morons in stressful situations.

So, there is nothing to do but wait for Sally to call me back and then we will figure out what needs to be done, if anything. Mostly, we are in a holding pattern.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, they are making this a little easier to deal with.
