Prayers and Good thoughts/update

Well, it's not good. Apparently, Elbert had a stroke along with the heart attack and there's been brain damage. He's befuddled and according to the hospital ombudsman, that's the way he will stay. He doesn't always know us...and gets names wrong, has no idea where he is or why he is there. At this point, it appears he may be bedridden and he will be released to a nursing home.

To give you an idea the tragedy that this represents for this sweet man....he once told me that if he felt a heart attack coming on, he'd sit down and wait. He struggled with Beulah's imprisonment in bed for 9 months and he so wanted to avoid it himself.

His situation is better than Beulah's....he's not going to be in pain from brain cancer and there'll be no huge doses of steroids or pain meds. He isn't diabetic, so there'll be no insulin shots.

The ombudsman did say that he probably would never really figure out where he is. He's alert in a very simple way. He eats when prompted, smiles and agrees with most any thing said...and is simply someone else. I miss him already.

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts......

Oh God. The poor man, and poor you guys to have to lose him like that. I truly feel that when people have these kinds of injuries, they know at some level in their heart of hearts, that they are loved and cared for. Even if a lot of the man Elbert used to be is gone, there is still a sweet, simple man you can love for as long as you can.

I'll redouble my prayers that the Ombudsman is wrong, and that Elbert will get some of himself back.

thank you....you're right, we'll love him no matter what. He'll never have reason to question that, at least. Thanks for your efforts....

(((Laurie))),

I'm so sorry for the poor diagnosis and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I'm glad Elbert isn't suffering, but sorry for the slow loss you and your family are feeling. I'll keep hoping they're wrong and he'll improve.

Me, too....thank you, Jerri....a lot!

I so appreciate the wonderful cyber-hugs and good thoughts and wishes. It's truly amazing how comforting the words of others are. I'm trying hard to rally my spirits and simply go on and do what life has set out for me. I'll get there....one step at a time.

Good for you, Laurie. I think under the circumstances that really is the best. I'm sorry the news wasn't better.

*hugs*

Oh Laurie - I'm sorry to hear this. However, they diagnosis may not be correct. When my aunt had her first stroke they didn't think she would even recover her speech. She did - and went on to torment (and I really mean that) the nursing home staff (and 2 other home's staff) for several more years.

Best wishes and vibes to you, your family and Elbert.
