Positive Thoughts and Prayers Needed, Please

Sep 03, 2006 18 Replies

I realize that I don't post here very often, but I do read the posts several times throughout the day and admire all your work and your commitment to your various quilting projects, not to mention sending prayers and positive thoughts to all those in need of them. I hate to ask, but if people have a spare moment to send forth positive thoughts and prayers, I would truly appreciate it. My husband has been told that fifty-three people (approximately 25% of the workforce ) will be laid off from their jobs within the next two weeks. We are just hoping that he isn't included in that number as it would be truly devastating to us as we are just getting back on our feet from when he was laid off four years ago. At that time, I was five months pregnant and he was given the news that he was to be laid off, given one month's severance pay and told that we had three days left of health insurance. While the birth of our daughter was a blessing and the highlight of our lives, it was a struggle financially. I know other people endure far worse and probably complain far less, I don't relish the thought of being in that position again. Any positive thoughts, energy and prayers would certainly be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Thank you so much to everyone for their support. You are the kindest and most selfless group of people that I have ever encountered, not to mention talented. Your kind words and prayers are truly appreciated.

Thank you for the kind words, Pat. We did look into COBRA when my husband was laid off four years ago and the cost was astronomical. It was almost $700 per month for both he and I. If the worst happens, I can get my daughter signed up for healthcare as she is under the age of eighteen. Thank you again for your kindness. It is truly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Kate. They are truly appreciated. In response to your question, we are located in the Kalamazoo area. As you know, right now, the US car manufacturers are experiencing huge losses and, as a result, there is a domino effect that is filtering through to the auto parts suppliers. My husband is an engineer for one of these suppliers. The manufacturing industry is being destroyed by corporations who outsource labor to countries like Mexico and South Korea, where they can increase their profit margin significantly by paying the workers less than they would pay their US counterparts. I don't wish to rant about such things as they really have no place on a quilting newsgroup, but since you live in Michigan, I am sure you hear about this happening all the time. Thank you again for your kindness.
