Howdy! What do y'all think of QN's new publishing schedule,to put out a magazine every 2 months? From 10 issuesa year to 6, without a significant increase in content& no decrease in price. Reasons given for the change (in the Editor's column forthe Sept/Oct issue): "a more traditional schedule",to give us more time to read the magazine because"many readers tell us that QN has so much info. that theydon't have time to take it all in before the next issue arrives"(god, I gag just reading such bullsqwatchy), so thereader will have "a full 2 months to savor each issue"(which I'm currently reading in one day). I know, some of you quit reading/subscribing to this magyears ago (KathyA ), but others of you have been readingand saving the issues for years, 20 yrs. for me (I threwout 15 yrs. worth, a few yrs ago, keeping only the few articlesI really wanted). What do you think about this? Is it another step to sendingthis 40-yr. old magazine out of business? Will you keepsubscribing? Did you even notice the difference? Non-issue? You'll stay w/ QN until the goats come home? ;-PJust wondering... R/Sandy - surprised that Jan Magee didn't include "the price of gas" in her justifications.. 8->108 pages, 10 full pages of fabric ads trying to pass as content & J.Flynn's column about "enhancing performance" -- this isn't it...

I subscribed to Quilter's Home for a year. At first it was a refreshing change from the 'standard' quilting mag, but then he started making it very 'gay'- gay-oriented prints on featured fabrics and many references to the gay lifestyle. I could handle that, too, as it was done in an amusing and matter-of-fact manner. But then he had an article that was just plain off color- about s.e.x. and not the fabric shopping kind. I didn't care for that one bit and thought it was just plain very poor taste and completely inappropriate for a quilting magazine. I am not continuing my subscription to that one, either. Sad. I enjoyed it for quite a few issues - it was a breath of fresh air.

I'm going to do the same thing as you, Musicmaker -- though I have to say that this is the first I've heard of the change, since I don't yet have my Sept/Oct issue. I also get the AQS magazine, and I've also been "trying out" a subscription to Quiltmania. QN is still my favorite, but I resent the change in issue/price ratio.

Some mags do seem to have a recurring theme --perhaps monthly..yearly ,etc. I always get a charge out of Prevention when I see it on the stand...it seems like there is always somethingon the cover about "How to flatten your tummy"..!!!

QNM and I had a disagreement about my subscription ten years ago or so. I "cancelled" the renewal they said I had ordered, and the upshot was that they also cancelled the last issue of my original subscription that I had paid for. But anyway, I find that I can get more ideas online than I will ever have time to make. My favorite site is Quiltville

I find it helps me to cut into fabric I might otherwise be "saving" (for what? - who knows!) and use it.

I agree with Jane's observation about Good Housekeeping and like magazines. Same old stuff, simplistic How-To's, and lots of sneaky cosmetic ads masquerading as articles.

Wow, Sandy, you opened a whole can of worms here! Everyone has a few words to say, it seems.

I subscribed to QN when I first started quilting, but let the subscription lapse after two years. It got pretty repetitious and even a bit boring (except the Helen Kelley column). To be honest, I get more help and inspiration right here and in my two really good LQS. (Yes, I know Tucson has at least a half-dozen LQS but some have lousy service.)

I wouldn't mind totally on-line content, but would want to print out hard copy of anything I think worth saving. You folks wouldn't believe the number of posts on this group I have printed out and stuck into a 3-ring binder. It's even categorized by subject!
