Ratio for Drunkard Path templates?

Mar 12, 2008 3 Replies

First, THANK YOU, rctqers! About ten days I posted about DP nerves and your answers were terrific and now I am hooked on this fascinating block! Now I am in the process of making a block that I want finished at 8". Based on one template in a book, I was going to cut the square at 8 1/2 and the inset quarter circle at half that--so, 4 1/4. But then (oh yes, I have for once gotten wiser with age! wish it would last....) I checked another book and their DP templates show no such ratio. So tell me, wise ones of my cyberguild, is there a reliable ratio for making the two templates needed in a DP block?

TIA muchly! Dogmom

I was told, several years ago, in a class with Laurene Sinema, that a "true" drunkard's path block is a 1/3:2/3 split of the block. the quarter circle is 2/3 of the sides, the "background" is 1/3 of those sides. However--- it is your block/quilt so make it whatever you want it to be.

I have a warm smile in me when I read Laurene's name. She was such a lovely lady.

She really was. We still miss her here in the Valley. The Quilted Apple is still around, but just not the same. sigh.
