RCTQ meetup

This afternoon Mary in Rock Island, Susan Laity Price and I met in Muscatine for a couple hours of talking and shopping. The time went too quickly. It certainly brightened up a drizzly, dark and chilly afternoon! Susan has a picture of the three of us on her camera....perhaps she can post it somewhere when she gets home from her trip. We all spent a few bucks so we have a souvenir of our afternoon. Susan had some wonderful pictures of some of her quilts. That gal has certainly cranked out some beauties!!! I took a few of mine for show and tell, but nothing all that remarkable since they are all posted in my webshots albums already. Mary and Susan had met previously, Mary and I had met previously, so we had a small circle of RCTQ friends with Mary as our strongest link! As Susan said when we left, "I've never met a quilter I didn't like". So true! KJ

Oh, and I'm sure there would be nothing better than having you with us too! Some day, some day, we'll have to figure out a way to get you out of the swamp and into the Midwest! KJ

Sounds wonderful! I'd have loved to have joined you, but there's some silly requirement about having to actually be at the office in order to get a paycheck every other week!

I can appreciate Susan's comment about never meeting a quilter she didn't like. DH and I were in Virginia recently and had some time to ourselves on our last day so took a drive in the country. We went to Purcellville and found Webfabrics. There were three ladies working that morning, and we were warmly welcomed by all. As I was checking out, I mentioned that I had found them through the Fab Shop Hop so they started asking where we were from, etc. That led to a conversation about driving through Iowa on their way to the Chicago show (we gently reminded them that they drove through Ohio, not Iowa), and eventually to an upcoming trip to Houston (the shopowner, not me). And, of course, more talk about fabric and quilts. As we left, DH commented on how warm and friendly the people were, and then he said, "Just like all quilters, huh?" Yep!

That's wonderful, I'm envious! I've been trying to get Cheryl from Oz up my way but I think she's afraid of snow! LOL Geez, I dont' really know anyone that lives this far north. Of course, I would be willing to travel south. I need to make a road trip to Queensbury, NY to get my baby cleaned. Anyone around that area wlling to do a meet up?

Hey - I'm not frightened of snow. Lived right next to it for years in fact. It's the distance I have to travel to get to YOUR snow that is a bit of a problem lol

My place to yours is something like 10,500 miles (over

16,500kms). There aren't many places further away as the crow flies.

However, anytime you want to come Downunder . . . . . . .

Darn, Louise. With all of 25 miles between us, you would think we wouldn't need out of towners to spur our own meet up would you? We'll have to plan our own. That work stuff really gets in the way of fun stuff doesn't it? Well, I guess it can support the buying of fun stuff too.

Another important note--we now know which blue Susan is going to use for the blue and white quilt she must start, finish (and have quilted) before mid November.

It was great to see both KJ and Susan together!

I just learned last night that my local art museum is going to have a quilt exhibit soon. I'll get some details and start a new topic closer to the opening.

Oh yes, I forgot that important detail! Who won the soccer game? It got drier as I drove West, so I hope the clear weather was there before kickoff. Kj

The other team won the soccer game. It did stop raining before the game got too far underway but it got colder and the field remained slippery. We could see the boys' breath from across the field.

Howdy!

I've never used a blue Susan in a quilt but I'm willing to try it. (I love blue & white quilts.)

Glad y'all had a meet-up. Any secrets you can tell?

Getting her to hold still for the cutting and sewing parts may be a bit tricky though! It will be worth it as the current plan is a single Irish Chain. Easier to make than many but lovely to behold.

If I told, then they would not be secrets anymore.

A Downunder trip is on my list. Can't give you any time frame yet. This year our vacation plans were changed to include three family weddings instead of beautiful islands. At least the weddings were in interesting places (Oregon, Arizona and California). Someday. . .
