OMG those are just HORRIBLE. They should have had you make them to begin with. OMG, i can't get over how terrible they are....but i know you'll make them beautiful!

Wow! I am amazed. Not in a good way, although I will be the first to admit, any thing I might have sewed garment wise would probably look as bad. Good luck on your rescue. The bride and family are lucky to have caught you. :)

That hook's a lovely puzzle, isn't it? It's obvious from the way it fits that I have it the right way up, but the other sensible suggestion was a lamp bracket. However, this was never an electric machine, so I'm not sure it would have had a lamp bracket.

Wow, Kate, you are truly brave! What a mess those dresses are. I really feel for those girls having paid so much for such a disastrous result. Thank heavens they found you!

I'm starting to think the hook is a later add-on, as it doesn't appear to have any known purpose! It's in the wrong place to be a lifting handle. Verrrry odd!

Actually, if I remember correctly you mentioned that the original pics you have of the machine don't have the hook on the machine. I believe it may be a later add-onable piece to hold a lamp. My grandmothers treadle wasn't electric, but did have some sort of electric lamp add on much later, may have been this type of gizmo. Been many years since I tried to use it (did make one garment on that machine........ still have the skirt I think...... just because.) (I kept trying to start with a toe push instead of a heel push....... sigh)

It may well be a later add-on for a lamp. It's the best solution we have yet... It's just that a lamp fixed there would cast a shadow on the needle area...

When I get the machine into it's final position, I'll have to get a battery lamp for it, as the landing light will be behind me. There is a window, so daylight sewing is no problem, but sewing at night would be!
