Self binding how to?

I've been thinking about doing a self binding (backing rolled to front) on DGD birthday quilt. However, since I've never done this, I got to wondering about how to do the corners. Can this be explained or does someone have a site I can go to? Thanks a bunch! Bonnie (in Oregon)

I just did my lap quilt that way. I did the sides then trimmed the batting from the corner to make it thinner and then turned the top to stitch over the side "binding." Since the batting went all the way to the edge of the backing that I folded to the front it made the edge "fat." Looked pretty good, if I say so myself :)

Did that make sense?

There's picture of one finished like this on my site - the Electric Leftovers quilt. There's a close up of how it looked done, but I didn't take any of the process!

Yes, Kathy that makes very good sense, very well described. I was hoping someone would answer this question or I felt I would Have to do it myself, lol. I have done almost all my bindings this way as I am a very slow and somewhat lazy handquilter, but I am not at all good at describing my technique. Yours is exactly the same as I do mine. I have been asked to "teach" this in my quilt guild.....I thought Why? it seems so simple I had assumed everyone had done it but I found out there that many had not. Marilyn in Moravia
