Re: Picket Fence help needed

Directions say to cut strips 2 3/4" X 5". Place a light strip on a dark strip, right sides together, at a right angle, and aligning the corners. Draw a diagonal line across the corner, sew on the line, and trim to 1/4" seam. (Looks just like joining strips on the bias for binding.) Make 240 of those. Make 120 using 2 dark print strips. Each block uses 2 light/dark and

You can make your picket fence any size. Imagine a finished 9-patch block with 3 columns of 2" squares. Now think of turning the middle square in each column into a half square triangle patch, all 3 angled the same way. Split the triangle patch and connect one triangle to the upper square and one to the lower square in each column. The shape you get is 4" high and 2" wide with a flat bottom and a slanted top and just needs seam allowances added. It doesn't matter what size squares you use, but 2" finished is easy for me to draw out.

Thanks, Jane, but I'm not really making a fence! Picket Fence is a quilt block that is made up of 3 rails that are each divided in the center using a 45 degree angle. When I made mine I created a design of orange stars on a blue background.
