Scrappy block pattern

Before Jessemay disappeared, she had a scrappy block yahoo group. Someone there had posted a suggested block for the swap. I left the group but thought I had the pattern saved. Now I can't find it. Anyone know what I'm talking about and have the pattern?

Geez I think I joined that group too. I'll have to go look for it for you, but it may have been saved on my old computer. I know I printed it but I'm not sure I can find that. My sewing room is a total disaster. I haven't done any sewing for months. I will search thru the computer and my pen drive and see if it is saved there.

Good luck Marilyn

You can not. Roberta and I have been trying to decrease our scrap baskets for years and never get anywhere. Not blowing my own horn here - if you have to put me in a classification, list me under 'happy'. . . but with the wonderful pictures of our Jeanne's hug, Louise has put up pictures of 3 of my attempts at 'diminish' scrap bin. Offset plain squares - Louise calls it purple passion, the mice quilt - only HSTs and a crib quilt made of strings. I enjoying doing the strings one the most. You can decide (and change your mind later) how many blocks you need and sort of do a factory production by adding one piece to each of the blocks before you have to get up and go press. Which, of course, is very good for your bones and assorted other body parts. Another fun scrap block is the log cabin. You can begin with the traditional red square or anything else - another color or 5 sides if you take the notion. You just go around until you can place a square ruler on top and trim. Wonky is good. Have fun. Quilting just must be fun, don't you think? Polly

i saw 2 from you, Polly. did i miss another one? will have to check it again when the sun is lower as i have the quilt folded back now so it wont fade. even got dh to do it without thinking each morning when he gets up. i'm up first and he opens the curtains when he gets up so its his job to also fold the quilt back. what am i looking for on the third one? j.

This is true. I do not understand this phenomenon, but I can vouch that it is absolutely true. Just try starting a quilt specifically to use up the scrap box, and it grows instead of shrinking. But the good thing about it is, the quilts I've made *attempting* to reduce the scrap pile are honestly some of my very favorites. Sherry

Three in the 'conquer the scrap bin' lot, Jeanne. One was the one-eared mice - that one's simply HST. One Louise called Purple Passion. All it is - squares offset so none of them ever have to line up with any other one; and ! the most fun - the crib quilt that is leftover strings wonkily stitched to a rectangle. I understand about your protecting your Hug but you can only do so much. I had thought to guard ours against sun-fading but DH is so crazy about it that it's pretty much hopeless. Just can't resist the love that shines through. Polly

Ok, well I didn't find my digital copy, but I did find my printed one. Basically it is an Indian Hatchet block.

These were the written directions for the block: One 6 1/2 inch square in cream, white or beige tone on tone or a small print that would allow a siggie to show up on it. (background) Two 3 1/2 inch squares for the corners.

Draw a diagonal line on each small square. Lay a small square on one corner of a large background square, sew on the diagonal line. Trim the corner off 1/4" from the sewing line press triangle open. Place another small square on opposite corner (diagonally across) of the background square and repeat sewing trimming and pressing.

Add name and location siggie on the background centre.

Clear as mud??

It had light brown (muslin?) rectangle and multi colored squares. That's about all I can remember. I've searched the internet without success. It was pictured in the photos and a link was given to the pattern. Like you say, the group died 2 years ago. I was just hoping someone still had access to the group and could get the info.
