Prayers needed for health

Ok well delivery went fine, but on wednesday things changed. I got a Migraine, so I thought. Took my meds and rested. Next day wake up with it again just as wicked as the day before. Unusual for it to go two days but has happened a couple of times. Take my meds and just get through the day. Friday wake up again with it. At this point I"m beginning to lose it. Then I start getting heart palpitations. Not good now I know something is weird. Never had a migraine that went on for three days when I actually slept at night. Normally if I get to sleep and sleep at least 6 hrs then it's gone by morning. So go to the pharmacy to get blood pressure checked. It was 186 over 101. Not good my norm is 118 over 63. So off to the hospital.

I get dr death. Use your imagination on this one. Leave the hospital no treatment. Wait a few hours go back when dr death won't be there and get another dr. He immediately realizes there is a big problem. Heart monitored, blood drawn, meds given, put to bed on the ward. Fine think things are turning around. Nope. Dr death is on all weekend. So don't get to see a dr on saturday. Fine sunday I'm told there is another dr over in emerg. Ask nurse to see if that dr will come over and take a look at me. 4hrs later different nurse tells me no that's not going to happen cuz it's against hospital policy. If I want to see a dr today my only choice is dr death. I tell her NO. Nurse then informs me that I won't get to see any dr till monday morning. Meanwhile every time they take my blood pressure it's going up again even with meds.

Call hubby and vent. He says do whatever you have to. So I pack my stuff and walked out. Never told anyone either. Took them 2 hrs to realize I wasn't there and they phoned my cell. Hilarious. Went home showered had a bite to eat, kiss the kids cuz they don't get why mommy keeps disappearing. Drive 30 min to another town to emerg. Go through the whole speil of everything that has happened with the nurse. Who happens to know me so we had a good laugh. Seen dr within 10mins. Treated right away. Monitored for 3 hrs then allowed to go home with meds.

Essentially I have preclampsia/toxemia resulting from the pregnancy. Even though I'm not pregnant anymore. OB says it's rare but it can happen. Essentially my blood pressure is high, my head hurts so bad at times I wish it would pop off, my body is so swollen I hardly recognize it at times. And at it's worse I wish I could close my eyes and not wake up till it was over. At other times it doesn't seem so bad maybe a 5 out of 10. But that bearable compared to a 11 out of 10. So bed rest for a few days and the meds and pray and pray some more that this will correct itself in a few days and I will get back to normal. As it stands right now I've actually gained 4lbs since giving birth. Mainly due to water retention. All this has been way harder then the pregnancy was. Kids don't understand why mommy can't do anything. Hubby is unsure if he should let me rest, cuz I don't look sick at times. When I do look sick he knows. But he's staying home to babysit mommy tomorrow. So if you got this far I would be honored to be included in your prayers. Thanx for listening to my ramblings.. Take Care Joanna

I suffered pre eclampsia with both pregnancies. First time was the most severe, part of the reason DD was born at 29 weeks. Been pill popping for high blood pressure ever since ....19 years

Joanna, so sorry about all the complications. And then to be "blown off" by the doctor - that's inexcusable! Prayers are being said for rapid healing - feel better soon!

Has some one run proper tests to check on your thyroid? Lots of that misery could be compounded by your thyroid and it seems like you mentioned that it has happened to you before. Polly

Oh, Joanna! I hope everything is better *really* soon! It's so frightening that you could be so sick and that a doctor wouldn't do anything about it. Maybe Polly's gators could help?

Hugs and prayers are one their way! You might consider filing a report about the services (or lack thereof) provided by "Dr.D" -- the hospital needs to be aware of what he is/is NOT doing! ME-Judy

I'm so sorry about the horrible doctor, I was pretty confident from the information you have that you had postpartum PE and that needs to be taken seriously. You definitely need to rest and whilst your resting you need someone to bring you good food and plenty of liquids, preferably water to drink.

Did you have a spinal or epidural? As I wondered if you may also be suffering from a spinal headache.

Gah! BTDT. Mine manifested before the cherub arrived, but stayed for the first week and a bit after. Luckily as he was kept in, I also got to rest up that week.

Hope the prayers get to you full strength.

Oh wow, Joanna! I've heard of pre-eclampsis, but never AFTER the baby arrives. It sounds absolutely miserable. I'm so glad your husband is staying home with you.

Sheesh, bad enough to be sick, and then have to put up with a grossly incompetent doctor and jump through hoops just to get treatment.

I'm sending healing vibes and keeping you in my thoughts.

Oh, My, Joanna!!!

I'm glad you finally got helped, elsewhere, and so sorry you had to deal with "Dr. Death" at the first hospital! You should definitely let however is in charge at that hospital (Hospital Administrator, Board, or whatever) know what you went through.

I hope you feel better soon!

So glad of that, Joanna. The stuff that a wonky thyroid can cause just scares me to pieces. DH had a pulse of 175 and his heart nearly pounded away. Send Dr.D to us; we'll know what to do. Bet he tastes like chicken. Polly

In writing. It takes time to get an incompetent doctor dealt with, but you can bet his colleagues know what's going on and are just waiting for somebody outside to start the ball rolling.

The US and UK deal with incompetent doctors in different ways. The UK approach is to make the guy practice under supervision for a while and hope he gets a clue. The US one is to reduce the guy's certification so he can only do things that can't easily kill people, like dermatology and psychiatry. It would be better if both options were available both sides of the pond.

Hope you're on the mend, Joanna.
