Quick update

I know how this group (myself included) worry about people who don't show up for a while so thought I'd just pop my head in to let you know how things are here. As I've typed this post has got a bit longer than I thought when I started!

The last week has been not great. Friday before last I went to my GP about a sore patch on the side of my foot that I couldn't see due to the surgery I had years ago. Walked in to be greated with him telling me he needed to start by taking my blood pressure. Somewhere between Thursday afternoon when I saw the midwife and Friday morning my BP had gone from 130/80 to

175/95. GP sent me off to go to the hospital, having rung the maternity unit to tell them I was on my way. Fortunately was able to get a friend who lives 10 mins up the road to take me across. By the time I got to the hospital my BP was up even further (something over 106) and I ended up being admitted. At that point there was no sign of protein in my urine so they were worried but not that worried as not preeclampsia. Started me on medication to bring the BP down. The doctor who examined me decided I had also got a chest infection so started on a course of antibiotics for that. The hospital did a scan and found that at 36 weeks the baby is "extended breech" (was told "its warming its ears with its feet" - i.e. its got its legs straight not bent and is therefore very unlikely to manage to turn itself - the technician said its like trying to turn a somersault without bending your knees). I'd been having problems for a few days with several of the fingers on my right hand going numb and the hospital have said I've developed carpal tunnel syndrom and given me splints to wear overnight (and at other times if I want). Got sent home Saturday afternoon with the community midwife visiting on Sunday and clinic appointment for Monday afternoon and instructions to take it easy.

Visit from midwife fine. Went back to hospital on Monday afternoon and not only was my blood pressure back up despite the medication there was evidence of protein in my urine sample. Back to the Day Assessment Unit for monitoring and then admitted. Ended up staying in hospital until late Thursday. With the medication my BP has come back down but there is still protein showing although not at a level that would make them do anything drastic. One of the community midwives called today and my BP is still down, she'll call again tomorrow and then I've got to go back to the hospital on Monday morning for monitoring. Am trying to be hopeful that I'll get to come home again on Monday but am also planning on not having to leave my car in the hospital pay-and-display car park just in case I don't get sent home!

The consultant has now decided that a c/section will be necessary and this has currently been booked for 25/4 at latest.

Am trying hard to take it easy but there's so much needs doing round the house! DH is being really good about it all and very supportive and is doing as much as he can and making me rest. He did admit on Thursday that he's finding it hard and that he had spent a large chunk of time at work on Thursday worrying about me and bump.

I may not be checking in much over the next couple of weeks but will get DH to let the group know once bump arrives.

Please do let us know Ray, and remember something someone told me when I was in a similar situation with DD1 (who's now 28!!) "Look after yourself and that baby, the dust will still be there when you're fit to deal with it!" There's really very little that won't wait or can't be done by someone else.(I guess eating and sleeping are the best examples I can think of without descending to basics!) You and your baby are the important ones here. Do take care, love & higs Christine

Never mind about the dust - it always comes back! Take care of yourself and and your "bump" and hope all goes well in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Ray

Like others have said, the dust can wait...take care of yourself and bump. I also had my BP drop and stay low on my DD1 and I had to take it very easy. DH also found it hard to get the house taken care of :)

Just do the absolutely necessary, perhaps give DH *specifics* on housework essentials if that might help. Most of all, take care of YOU! Everything else can take care of itself....

Best wishes, feel good Michelle

Ray, you forget what needs to be done around the house. Go sit in an easy chair and let the house take care of itself. It must be a worry for you, and that in it self it not good for your blood pressure. Do be kind to yourself, because that is the most important thing right now. You are nearly there, so it pays to rest the last little bit. My dochter also developed carpel tunnel during her last pregnancy. I year after Aysia was born, she had it operated for it and is fine now.

I am thinking of you, Hang in there kiddo

Big hug, and I sure it needs to be a big one...LOL take care

Goodness, Ray, you have been having quite a time, haven't you? I'll be praying for you and the sprog.

Hello Ray it is great to hear from you - sorry about all the problems with BP etc but it will all soon be over for you and little"bump" will be the glorious little baby waiting for you. I did not know you were expecting so congratulations and I hope all goes very well for you.

It is great to have a suportive husband - as all should be ! It certainly helps a lot. Bye - keep us posted God Bless Gwen

Hi Ray,

It was so good to hear from you, but I have to agree with the others, just take it very easy, housework never goes away, but tell DH not to get stressed out with it either. You and the little bump are most important right now. I'll be waiting for the great news.

Hugs,

Nora

Please take care of yourself, try to get the rest you need, everything else will wait. Hoping you feel better soon! : ) Marie and the cats

Ray,

I just now read your post. I had similar issues when I was pregnant with DD. DH had to take his vacation to stay home and take care of me and my DSs before she was born and I felt bad about that. Looking back, I see that it was really just a small blip of time overall that worrying was a waste of energy. Please try not to worry about the dust! Oh, and try to lay on your left side as much as possible. That was a trick my doctor gave me to help keep the BP down and it worked for me.

Gwen, I'd have to admit that I'd forgotten that the point which I mentioned this was during the period that you were off line without a computer. I got further confused by the list of participants in the baby-ghan that was sent as you are listed as having contributed?

As a further quick update, I went back to the clinic at the hospital today and everything seems to be going well (or at least as well as can be hoped!).

My blood pressure was up a little but not significantly and the baby when monitored seemed fine. I'm just very tired. Have been sent back home to take things easy and will see the midwife again on Thursday.

Ray, I missed your original post. Please know my thoughts and all ARE with you! Hugs, Noreen

Hi Ray,

I'm not sure if I replied to your original post (I meant to but with a new baby in the house my brain is in a mush-like state these days). Anyway, I'm glad to see that you are doing better! And also wanted to echo others' sentiments that you should not worry about the cleaning, etc. After the baby is here, trust me, you won't care!!! Please take care of yourself and best wishes for the upcoming birth of your beautiful baby...

LauraJ

Ray and Laura, both of you take care. You will be mothers for all your life now, and you need that extra smile, time out and pat on the back.

I am sending you all three.

Els
