Re: Quilterscache

I've just been looking through Quilterscache, and there really are some gorgeous blocks there. Its sometime since I looked through properly, and I got so carried away I forgot what I was looking for. There seem to be more unusual ones there than I remember, and its fascinating to see how they look in a full quilt. I can't remember the page of just stars either.

Most of the 12" and over blocks are normal piecing and the smaller ones paper pieced.

For anyone who isn't familiar with it, its

I love that site, too! It's one of the first that I bookmarked and is the most frequently checked when I'm looking for a block or just an idea. ME-Judy

I check about once a week. She has new ones, and most of the old ones are even "new" to me.

Have you seen the 3 martini block? It's a hoot, and the Rick Rack one is calling to me too. Polly

The Abenaki Way caught my eye. My GGGM was an Abenaki Indian from New Hampshire. It will be on my list of things to do someday.

I absolutely love this site. I think there is none better than Quilterscache. I never have a problem finding a block a little different.

i'm holding my breath. the contract has a ten day 'changed my mind for any reason at all' clause in it, from the day of signing which was tuesday 17 July, so it really goes unconditional on the 27th, only three days til closing date. then we'll be mortgage free. then we can start fixing this house up. needs new carpets, drapes, total redecorating really, new kitchen or something done in there, new bathroom or something done in there. then the downstairs is the big worry. to use it we gotta work out how to fix the concrete floor so no more salt? comes thru. also there is a half bathroom down there the previous owners put in but without a permit. it needs a total makeover/upgrade, including putting in a window in the concrete block wall there now, digging up the outside paving to get at the sewerage connections to see how they've done it and bring that up to scratch. just getting the permit to do all this is a long process as well. add a shower, a proper hand basin/cabinet, hot water on demand unit, ventilation/fan/something. tis a big job if we want to make the downstairs totally inhabitable. nightmare to even think what all is involved. at least when this sale goes thru we'll have the funds here to do it. did i mention re- roof or new tile roof, drain and resurface the pool, might put in solar heating in for the pool, heck i'd like to put in a full cover for all yr round use tho that would look odd to say the least in the situation. we'll see what we can come up with. i'm prepared to spend as much as we have to, to fix up this house properly. we've been in it 11yrs? now and have done nothing at all, other than fixing the drainage after we got the total downstairs flooded the first big winter rain 6 months after we moved in. that cost us nearly 10k with all the inside and outside mess involved due to the access to side of the house and lost a beautiful japanese maple tree in the process due to the idiot drainlayers. argh. oops, sorry to put ya all to sleep. biting my fingernails on a lovely spring but should still be winter morning here in the south pacific, jeanne :)

Love that one!! I could have used that one in Jessamy's Starry Starry Night Block Swap. I did notice how all the backgrounds for the sample blocks in the pattern are solid.

Hadn't been to the site in a few weeks that with the new school year starting. Thanks for reminding me.

fixed the subject to OT too folks, sorry bout that. i'm sure most folks could care less bout me and my house, lol.

goodness that skeered me, jenn. :) there is a ten day 'change his mind bout it for any reason' clause which runs out on the 27th, oh that is tomorrow. cool. real estate agent called last night to see if it was ok for him to start some work on the house before the 1st aug. fine by us. fences, might want to get someone to work out the amount of carpeting needed, maybe installed too, who knows. we're still waiting on the resource consent from the city council to get three biiiiiiiig trees removed asap. also got the garage guttering replacement going in this week, today/tomorrow, soon as the piece is cut/shaped and the installer gets it in his hot little hands, wont take long to install if the weather holds that is. so far its been pretty nice here between the odd day of rain once a week or so, lol. works for me. sunny days in winter, love'em. the house guttering was replace last week with no worrys, all the window surrounds inside and out are freshly painted too. so they've only the inside to worry about when they move in.

going down this weekend with Sam and his camera to get some pix of the place. Gen asked for pix of her wallpaper, go figure. she says she still has dreams bout that house. i asked her what dreams and so far no response, will ask again when i send her the pix. also want some pix of the outside and the living room feature wall with fireplace/mantle/front-tiled-timber surround, tongue and groove wall and side bookcases, all done in rimu (native reddish timber). we had that put in to our specs soon after we moved in. tis a lovely big room with that and its bay window. i'm sure that room sells the house, lol. even for all the other work still needs updating in kitchen/bathroom. we left all that due to the cost to us and didnt think for the time/trouble it would raise the value of the house comparably. also let folks do it how 'they' want it, eh. then its on to alllllllllll the work needs doing on this house for us, finally. i need to work out what to do in what order. nothing is ever simple. sigh... hugz from the sunny south pacific in winter, jeanne
