Relief quilts

Another observation- I'm using Warm & White for batting. It can be quilted up to 10 inches apart. I can sew 6 lengthwise rows approx. 6 inches apart to quilt the turned quilts much faster than I can tie them- with the tying counting marking, stitching, knotting and trimming the threads. The machine quilting may be stronger, too.

WOOOOOOHOO! I'm on a roll! I had another brainstorm! I machine quilted/stitched 6 in. in from the edge down each long side using the "harp" of my machine for a guideline- just butted the edge of the quilt along the vertical piece of the machine. Then I folded the quilt over at that stitching line and stitched next to the edge of the quilt for the next inner line of stitching. NO measuring and NO marking!

I'm gonna knock out these quilts in no time!

Some may remember the big midwestern floods of 1993, when Des Moines, IA lost its water plant and water came in milk jugs loaded by volunteers. Quite a few of them had magic marker messages and greetings on them, written as they were loaded. I know my mom said it brightened a bad situation quite a bit, and the state historical society has a collection of those jugs still.

I know the lady in Houston has been good about answering e-mailed questions, so you also might try that and see if she would accept them. I'm sure the people would be happy to have them.

One of the quilters on the designers list wrote to IQF and said that she could buy sheets cheaper at Wal-mart and have them shipped to Houston for less money than she could mail her old sheets. The woman in Houston said that would be fine. Seems like she's pretty accommodating and just trying to help out.

Don't apologize for a giving heart Ms. Leslie. It is more important to get as many out as you can. All quilts are stitched with love and this ain't no contest on needlework.
