Sharing quilt show pictures?

We went to the quilt show in Columbus, Ohio, took lots of pictures, bought lots of unique fabric, and had a great time.

I thought about posting the pictures to my webshots site but then wondered if this might be violating something. Since I do not have the details and the quilter's name, is it proper to post pictures of their work.

There were lots of beautiful quilts.

Best of all I got to meet Gen and Kiteflyer.

It does generally violate copyright even when the makers name is given. However, last year NQA put the winners up on their website (actually, they are still up

) so perhaps this years will be up soon for all to enjoy. It's been fun to hear about your meet up and all. Maybe some day....

I'm not saying if you should or shouldn't but I had a set of quilt show photos on my webshots several years ago without any quilter information and received an email telling me it was a violation of copyright to show the photos publicly without giving credit. So from now on what I do is take a picture of the quilt and then a close up of the id tag so I can give the name of the quilt and the quilter.

First thing I'd suggest is to check the rules of the show. Sometimes they'll say right up front that any pictures taken are to be used for personal use only.

Actually, it's still a violation of copyright, even if you do give credit. Most quilters will be more willing to let you slide if you give credit, but for people who teach classes, enter other shows, want to sell the quilt, or are writing books, having pictures up on the internet can be problematic.

Best to keep those quilt show pictures for your own personal use. :)

The entry forms for our quilt show have a block for the person to check, giving permission for the quilt to be put on a CD. We take pictures of every quilt in the show, try to get the person's name showing, put the pictures on a CD, and sell them to guild members, and anyone else wanting them.
