So you aren't that far from Jenkins, KY then. Lived by Jenkins by the Golf Course eons ago for about a year or so until we got sent off to MD on the 'next road job'

I can get to Jenkins in about an hour I guess, have by passed it a lot this year going to the orthopedic prior to and after my surgery but haven't been in the town of Jenkins since back in the 70's when I was in high school band. I have to go across US 119 and the Whitesburg mountain to get there, bad road but then I am use to bad roads, but once you get to Whitesburg 119 is now a four lane from there on.

Drove the kids to Whitesburg from Jenkins for school. How well I remember that road. Is that golf course still just outside of Jenkins (about 2 mountain miles SW of it)

Oh, Polly....that is really what Christmas is really all about, isn't it.

No idea, I had not traveled in that direction in years until I had my knee surgery in Pikeville. The area sure has grown and I would imagine that it is unless it was taken when they made 119 a 4 lane. When I go shopping, etc. I tend to go to VA rather than anywhere around here, just as close, a little bigger mountain, but much better stores to shop in. I have not seen a golf course anywhere between here and there but then I just by pass Jenkins and don't take the exit to get to it.

Thank you for sharing, Polly! As usual, an inspiring post. I feel a bit guilty that I have been so tied up with my mother this year that I haven't been able to share things. If you hear of anyone else needing tree ornaments for next year, please let me know. I no longer use a big tree and have lots of stuff I will gladly send.
Kate, how lovely! I wish we could all share the holidays of other cultures--it would mean more days off work, for one thing and of course would help us understand one another a tiny bit better! I know it is important to clutch one's own culture securely to one's heart, but it doesn't hurt to reach out and learn about another culture. I make lefse for the holidays, and I am Irish--go figure!
I'll be listening, Carolyn, but there are none that I personally know of. Thank you so kindly for offering. Polly
