So What's Wrong With A Singer?

I'm starting to seriously look for a new sewing machine. Since Istarted quilting 2 years ago, I've been sewingon a Singer 15-91. I really like using it for piecing. I suspect Iwill continue to use it for piecing even afterI get a new one because I like it, and because I am basically an oldfogey who hates change.But here's the deal. I want to be able to do machine applique. So Ineed a machine with nice stitch optionsfor that. One that preferably isn't too complicated, is easy tothread.And I am definitely on a budget. I've given up on ever being able toafford an expensive machine. My LQScarries Husquvarna and Singer. I really want to buy from her. It willbe worth it in the long run because shewill be a great resource for help with it, and I will need that.I can buy the cheaper Husquvarna (Scandenavia) at around $550. Or Icould buy a Singer for around $250 that hashas a lot more features.Everytime you say "Singer".....people kind of turn their noses up andsay something like "Singer isn't whatit used to be." I'm sure that's true.But for me, who just wants a machine that does a few decorativestitches and is easy to operate, do you allthink the Singer would work? Do any of you guys have one of the newones? No, my dearest Linda ... you would be amused, and perhaps a bit startled by the (and I'm bein' kind here) naivete and overall silliness of the declaration, but you would not take the looney seriously enough to be insulted.
