some very, very odd block settings

Maybe if you are really, really desperate and can't buy any more of that essential fabric?

I am not so minded. Neither am I desperate. However, I thought studying the settings was big fun. I particularly enjoyed just looking at figure no. 8. Can't you just imagine a quilt where it looks like some of the blocks were not secured and were escaping? Thank you, Jack. Polly

Interesting! Thanks Jack.

Figure 3 is particularly do-able. . In message , Jack Campin

He-he! I'm up and have just gone through the diagrams. Great find. I've just posted that Figure 3 is definitely simply quiltable. Others are I'm sure, but not so straightforwardly! Fascinating. . In message , Leslie& The Furbabies in MO. writes

Interesting. I couldn't help wondering what the Judges' criticisms would be for some of them where the points didn't match - would they realise it was intentional? All the hard work could be in vain!

Definitely Figure 3; and I'm sure many of the others, though I stuck to symmetrical first. I wouldn't have been happy doing any of the 'disconnecteds'. Sounds to me like a very mathematical version of how many students you can fit into a mini >gg< (square packing!). And, if there's an unknown, a mathematician would want to discover it. . Figure 8 instantly brought my attention to doing a quilt like this, titled "Fabric Techtronics" - similar to plate techtronics definitions used for earthquakes.

Because it was knowable. That's what math geeks do.

Believe it or don't, I used to understand all that stuff in my youth, but that was a lot of brain cells ago...

Howdy!

Can your quilt do this?

When the plate tectonics start at my house, it's time for a new table.
