Cool. I've envisioned doing something like that (one day, like everything else) but with patchwork. I hadn't thought much about the quilting/stitching yet, but it's something to consider - especially working the two together the right way (whatever that is...)

I'm working on a drawing for a quilt that would use the Google Earth look at our little part of the world -- the river valley where we live. It's quite a striking view from above, and I'm trying now to think of how best to turn that into a quilt. Of course, like most of my drawings, it's likely to be a long time before a true cloth and stitches quilt sees daylight.

The Google Earth "before" view and the more recent aerial photos of the Hungarian sludge disaster look to me like they have potential.

Have a look at this quilt. I saw it earlier in the year at the Quilt Museum. Although I love wholecloth (who knew?!) I think these are more visually satiisfying. All that colour.
And I thought about patchwork flying back over California, some years ago. The UK is so curvy and the States seem so straight. And then Iceland! Well, I think the only way to do aerial shots as an image with that fabulous view would be Hawaiian echoes or fractals and mandelbrots. Fabulous!
One day, perhaps.

Ooops! Dozy this morning. Forgot the link:
What an interesting concept. I sent the link to Eleanor Burns. The map of Julian, CA possibly includes her Bear's Paw Ranch.
