Barn Quilts

Ran across an article in the online version of the newspaper where my family lives that caught my eye. Mary I think it was, was asking about these last month:

Around here you are more likely to find hex signs over the door or below the peak of a barn, rather than a quilt block. People will say they mean this or that or something else, but I was always told they were "just for nice".

We made one of our own back when we were young, poor, and a set of paints cost less than a TV...

Same thing with crazy quilts (and patchwork too I would imagine) - a lot of symbology and meaning, but most folks do it because they like the way it looks, and the old meanings are for interesting conversation. I used to have links to what a lot of that stuff meant

- can't seem to find them anymore, but then I have trouble finding my socks anymore....

I saw barn quilts while visiting in Kentucky. They are very beautiful.
