Can anybody here answer this question? - someone trying to locate a song about sewing a square for the NAMES Project quilt:

Jack, are you looking for the person who posted the question, or the answer to the question itself?

The answer to the question, i.e. the words to the song. I think I'm the only Mudcat regular who reads this group, so the person who posted the question won't see this thread.

Jack, this is the kind of question that intrigues me. I found a couple links that might help:

Hope one or the other helps a bit.

Neither of them really answers it, but I appreciate the link to Folkworks. I'd vaguely heard of them but never seen an issue of the magazine before, and it was good. That article on "quilting for folklore buffs" was very well done.

I thought Cathy Fink was a Mudcat subscriber, but she hasn't popped up to comment.

And an answer has appeared there - the site admin happened to have a recording in his collection.

Well? which one was it?

I have to confess to confusion since there is an entire songbook out as an accompaniment to the quilt. Plus several songs that people _think_ are about the quilt.

Cathy Fink, "Sewing a Name", sung by Claudia Schmidt and Sally Rogers on "While We Live", which is still in print from Red House Records (RHR45, 1991).

(There was never any doubt about what the song was - the original poster on Mudcat was trying to find the words, which aren't included with the CD. They're in that Mudcat link now).
