Spray and Fix in Oz?

Does anyone know if I can buy "505 Spray and Fix" in Australia or sommat like it that doesn't smell? My poor DH is a Chronic Fatigue suffer from way back and the Spotlight brand of basting spray that's been collecting dust in my cupboard fattens him right out (me too for that matter). I would like to try spray basting again rather than safety pins or thread basting......I might get more finished ;o)...it's the patching bit I like. Wendy

I'm sure that I have seen it in an online shop somewhere Wendy.

I have only ever used CraftSmart..outside. If I find some in my 'browsing' I will let you know

Do you have access to the fusible batting? I've found it to be very nice.

Hi Dee, I did do some trawling but didn't find anything until just now, you're post spurred me on to have another go.......I changed the wording and came up with 101 Quilt Basting Spray from a couple of different places. It says that it's odourless but then so do some fly sprays say their odourless and they smell worse than the normal variety. If DH gets a whiff of it, I'm history..... :o) Anyways, worth a try......... Wendy

Yes, Kathy, our Spotlight has some out there, have never tried it. Unfortunately, this time I've already bought the cotton batting for two single quilts but I might just give the fusible one a go for a scrappy quilt I'm piecing for the caravan.

Not a spray, and I have not used it - but this might be an = alternative.

Thanks for finding that glue because I've downloaded Sharon Schamber's patterns and would love to try her piec-lique method and was wondering where to get water soluable glue similar to the type she uses.....she seems to use glue quite a bit, something I've never thought of so many thanks again. I've been out of the patchworking for a few years and have lost touch with methods and tools of the trade so it's like I'm learning all over again.....rather fun, actually.

For Sharon's technique I would go with the one that has the syringe top. You only need a THIN line of adhesive to hold your fabric in place. I got lucky and got some Elmer's glue (that Sharon uses) from a dear friend in the US so I haven't tried this stuff yet. If you do, please post and let us know how it works.

It's fun catching up on all the new stuff isn't it?! BTW - Maree at OzQuilts is really helpful about sourcing stuff so if you need something give her a call. NAYY, but a VERY happy customer.

I don't know about the availability Down Under, but Mom and I love our basting guns and tacks. Much faster than thread or pin basting and no worries about fumes either. So if you can't find a spray, you might want to check out the tacks and a gun. Debra in VA See my quilts at

Do you know I didn't realize that you could get those for basting....I'm a tad slow. I've used that type of gun years ago in a screen printing business to put labels on t-shirts, the tacks were larger, of course but same thing. Thanks for the 'heads-up', Debra. Will certainly give that one a thought especially if the spray isn't as odourless as DH would like.....

May I suggest that, if you do get one, Wendy, that you get the Microtach one - the tacks are much shorter and the needle is finer. I really liked my first one - ordinary; but the micro one is wonderful. . In message , Lotsoflavender writes
