Today

I've been sort of productive today. I finished a little baby quilt that will be donated to Red Cross. I started it last week -- nothing fancy, just cute fabric in simple blocks and quilted onto a layer of very soft fleece. It wraps like a blanket, but it's got a quilt top. And I made a little doll quilt for a little girl who loves Winnie the Pooh. Should have done it months ago, but then..... well, you know.

I have so much waiting for my attention. A baby quilt for a friend's first grandchild -- I'm in the process of quilting it and having a tough time. I just keep ripping out wonky and jerky looking quilting. I need to start a twin quilt for the pretty girl who my son thinks puts the stars in the sky -- she goes off to college in late August. My friend who loves angels is still waiting for her quilt -- I found the most stunning angel fabric ever and it's been all stacked and ready for cutting for two months. But I can't decide on a pattern! I'm four 6-inch wide panels from finishing a quilt-as-you-go for my younger son. My art quilt Round Robin entry for the quilt guild hasn't even been started and it's due in mid-July. Then there are the things I want to do for me........

But for today, I checked two off my list. Now I'm going back downstairs to check another off. I think I can finish the quilt-as-you- go by bedtime. Move-em out!!

And tomorrow I'm going to spend the day playing with what I want to do just for me. I will figure I've earned it.

Smilingly, Sunny

Today I was attacked by Murphy's Law (with apology to Murph's Paw). This is multiple choice. I was vacuuming the top of the hot water heater. The little round brush fell off the vacuum's hose wand. Did the little round brush fall - (a) on the floor where I could bend over and pick it up? (b) on the clothes dryer where I wouldn't even have to bend over? (c) behind the hot water heater where no man has been before? DH asked how I moved the hot water heater. I told him I surely hoped I got all the connections back right. Polly

good for you Sunny! At least you were quilting!

I was hit by the "gotta clean up this mess" bug! Of course I've let things get so far behind it would take me a week of solid cleaning to even catch up with the basics, but for today, my main bathroom is scrubbed out, kitchen floor including behind and under fridge & stove got hand scrubbed (so I could get into corners & do baseboards) washed out all the garbage containers and did a large amount of sorting and putting away!

This was after working all morning. In between jobs I've been working on cutting 1 1/2 inch squares for Jo's postage stamp swap. Boy did I misjudge how long that job would take me! Of course it has to be fit in with all the many other committments I have going. It is fun to see all those fabrics tho. Can hardly wait to get my swaps.

Have fun doing "me" stuff tomorrow!

guess I should cut the grass tonight!

I like to think of myself as a reasonably fair house keeper but I have never vacuumed the top of my water heater. My excuse is that it is in the garage and that is dh's job. My guess to your ? is "C'. I guess we could say you were in hot water today.

That's what happens when you try to outdo all the rest of us! My big job today was selecting a carpet remnant to redo the bathroom

Actually, it only took an umbrella handle, a yardstick and a Yorkie. Not sure why Yogi was such a happy participant but he thought we were really having fun. Polly

You've worn me out just going through that list. Think I'll have a lie-down. Cheers Bronnie

I'm with you there Taria! Now I come to think about it -- we don't have a hot water system in the house anymore - cos we've gone solar and it is up on the roof. No way I'm getting up there to dust it LoL. Bronnie in sunny solar Queensland

Cork floor? Aha! Tell us what you think. I've been wondering how well it works - especially in the kitchen. Polly

LOL. Thanks, Val. I needed a laugh. The same goes for wallpaper even if you think it's the same up or down. It's not. And Michael Miller Fairy Frost if we wanted to wander back to topic. MM's 'snow' definitely has a different look when turned. Not quite as much as carpet with the nap-side down. Polly

I too had a productive day. I finished the second of 4 hummingbird blocks (6x9 inches and 105 pieces) and went back to my black and white with red lap quilt and got the borders on it. DH and I sat out on the patio for an hour or so after dinner and took paper off my pink and purple quilt. I now have a larger old table that I can use to baste and quilt. And before I turn out the lights tonight I will have completed 2 teacup blocks for an upcoming swap on another group. I'm enjoying this time to sew because I know it won't last long.

The answer to that is obvious, but one wonders what the point is of cleaning the top of a hot water heater! Do you have visitors who are ever that nosy? You're a closet obsessive-compulsive? If the latter, just make the thing a little quilted cover. Then you can whip it off and launder every now and then, much less trouble! Roberta in D

Ok, I now have to say I have not only never vacuumed the top of my hot water heater, I've never THOUGHT about doing it. I do keep the door to the closet where it lives tightly closed -- except when changing the a/c filter. And from time to time I have sneaked in and nudged the temperature up a teeny weeny tiny bit. (I do love hot showers! Not luke warm, hot!) But I think I remember reading on the manufacturer's recommendations that the hot water heater is terribly afraid of vacuum cleaners. And dusters and brooms and other cleaning type devices. ;-)

In the future, if you are overwhelmed with the desire to vacuum the hot water heater -- or any other device/furnishing of your house that's just minding its own business and not doing a thing to hurt you

-- take a deep breath, count to 10 as you blow it out. Keep doing this until the urge passes. Or, come to my house.

Love, and thanks for the laugh! Sunny

Once you have lived without a hot water heater for 3 weeks, you learn to truly cherish them. I'd crochet a pineapple-patterned doily and top it off with fresh-cut flowers if she needed it to feel loved. That's a Katrina hang-up, I'd guess. I'm thinking the architect planned this room for a garage, the owner planned it as a poolroom . . . and then there is me. The hw heater, washer and dryer live here in the sewing room with me and they get their share of batting fuzzies. I'm glad, Glad to have them. Polly
