VERY OT International traveling???

I just came back from a trip and had checked the hotel's amenities online before I left...All had hair dryers and ironing boards..only one was minus the iron..but I had that with me--but wish I hadn't dragged it along ! When packing our things from the ship we were on later I found the iron in dh's closet...Wish I hadn't mentioned that I found it as even tho it was travel size I kept thinking of it an anchor to lug home on the plane because all our other luggage had been put out for pick up the night before. Also found out that the ship I was on had a sm. laundry center w/ iron and bd. ( for some odd reason I couldn't find that info before we left ) also had hair dryer..actually 2 .. one on the wall and one in the drawer ! Another neat thing about a cruise is that I found pics of our stateroom online..exactly what stateroom I'd be in and a pic of it.. and if there was a window exactly what your "vista' would be...stairs, nice view, etc. Mary

It seems I am going to have the opportunity to do some traveling- I've never been outside the USA except for a short way across the border into Mexico. And I've only flown about 5 times and never even had to catch a connecting flight. I've never ridden in a taxi or public transportation. I need to know what to do??? How do I find a curling iron that will work no matter where I go? Can I take an aerosol can of hairspray? How do people pack what they need without going over the weight limits? Is cotton clothing the best or too wrinkly? How do you pack clothing so it doesn't look like you slept in it???

Help!

Leslie- applied for my passport and now I'm lost! & The Furbabies in MO.

It makes a difference whether you're going to Sweden or Nigeria.

Got somewhere specific in mind?

Nope. Not yet. But I can choose the place. I do know it won't be terribly far from the USA and it will be English speaking- for the first trip, at least.

Which suggests Canada, most of the Caribbean, Belize or Guyana. Or the British Isles if that isn't too far.

But there are a lot of European countries where you'll nearly always have somebody around who speaks English pretty well - the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Malta, Croatia (same goes for urban Argentina, I think, though I haven't been there). And English is spoken in the touristy parts of most countries, so if you want to do the mainstream tourist things at first, there won't be a language problem.
