Warning! My Rowenta caught fire!!!

I was just getting ready to iron the sashings for my quilt when I heard a sizzling sound and looked down at the plug as it shot flames into the air from the place where the plug attaches to the cord! Fortunately it went out when I hit it with the iron itself and turned off the surge protector.

Well, now need recommendations for a new iron - recommendations welcome.

I had this happen also with a Black and Decker. My DH put a new plug on it and it has worked for years now. You might have it checked and see if that is it.

My DH did this to our toaster.....which we have had for almost 30 years! He is the LEAST handy man you can imagine. So you could probably do it with your iron cord too.

Well- if you don't want to replace your cord plug- I wouldn't blame you. I have had an iron for about 2.5 yrs that works great. It gets very very hot. Kenmore (from Sears) brand "Pro-Steam" iron. Less than half the price of a Rowenta. Others have had good reviews of the Black and Decker "old style" retro type irons that are being sold for around $20 at Bed Bath and Beyond, etc.
