What Inkjet Printer do you like for photo transfers?

I am looking to purchase a new inkjet printer. I would love to have one that can also produce nice photo transfers for quilting. I've googled a bit and found lots of conflicting advice about ink types, paper feeding, archival properties, etc.

So, I thought I would ask.... for those of you who do fabric printing with an inkjet printer, what should I look for?

Any immediate pros/cons?

What do you LOVE about fabric printing. What do you HATE. What would you do differently?

Thanks in advance for all the advice, Lisa

Hello Lisaanne. I mainly lurk on rctq these days. I love printing on fabric.Love to add printed bits into my quilts. I have madewedding photos into cushions too. You are able to print exactly what you want. ..couple of leaves on sand, a dog in the water etc. I tried many when starting out but after using the Printed Treasures twice with great results I never tried other brands. These are a little more expensive but I have never had a failure yet. I killed a printer by ironing quilters muslin onto freezer paper, It jammed up so often then it wouldnt work again ever. I think it was an expenesive HP one. I have an epson printer just a RX590. Now superceded by the 690. It has 6 little tanks for ink, as the more ink tanks , or colours the better the colours. Better for things subtle like skin tones, and Fall leave too. I had a Brother and it was total crap for printing on fabric the picture came out grainy and the colours were always dissapointing. Cost a fortune in Printed Treasures and never had a good result. I only paid $60 australian at Officeworks for the printer (the Epson). With the Printed Treasures just load them into the printer the same as paper. I only load one at a time though. Follow directions on the packet. Easy, Now you have to show us the results. O I'm not affiliated with any stockist or supplier. trish

Having read this post - and others in the past - I decided to try to find some in the UK. I expect there are other places, but I have found that Creative Grids now sell this product. I have done a little printing onto fabric, but not much; and I would really like to do more, even to the extent of making fabric from photographs (I mean fabric that can be pieced into designs, not just as features). So, I shall get some

- and be assured of success >gHello Lisaanne. I mainly lurk on rctq these days. I love printing on

Hello again . Yes this one has 6 ink tanks. Epson RX59O it says on the lid of the photocopy bit. You have to buy more ink, but the payoff is much better quality colour on what ever is printed.. It is worth it if you are doing something really special, which all our projects are . trish

I have the RX500 by Epson -- and have had good luck with it. It also does the separate ink colors (Black, Yellow, Light Cyan, Cyan, Light Magenta and Magenta) Another advantage to the independent inks -- is that if you run out of one color -- you just replace that color. With my old single cartridge color printer-- if you ran out of yellow -- you had to throw the cartridge away -- no matter how much wa left in the pink and blue part of the cartridge.

I've never tried those ink refill places... so I have no idea what those are like.
