gizmo title sought

There's a gizmo thingie (try not to be unimpressed by my technical jargon) that has a little hook at the end (to catch the threads/tuck them under)

What's it called? D'lolly? (somehting like that maybe?)

Have looked at Lois' Elegant Stitch, Keepsake Needlearts (the Keepsake Quilting folks) and eBay -- don't know the title, so finding one has proved problematic.

J, who wants a treat. And that flamingo pattern I saw a while back too... it was SO CUTE, and I should have bought it then, but since I've got the money now!!! The designer showed it -- really nice, but finding who she was has proven to be not-so-easy.

That shouldn't surprise me. So far today I've washed clothes, hung them on line, pulled in quickly as it started to rain, and tried on a new shirt (too tight) So I need to stitch.

Have been working on a design of my own -- eons ago I had a Silk Floss (Waterlilies) swap, and have been enjoying using the new pretties. I'm so thankful for the others who played, and it's truly lovely to have choices.

Thank you Cheryl. You Enabler you!!!! :)

That's the exact one I was thinking about. What a great resource this is. Thank you. And what a cutie too!

I've got silks from the Waterlilies exchange a while back, and look forward to stitching this one in pretties. Might have to buy another skein or two -- and see if I can get another silk swap going too. That was fun and I was tickled. Have been working on a small sampler from the floss exchange goodies... Keeps me busy, and there's not much more boring than sitting in a doctor's office.

What on earth do folks do who don't stitch?! Purse projects are such a blessing. Am going to make a larger kit gizmo though as my smaller one is not quite big enough what with floss, fabric, beadds and such. Isn't it nice that they stores have those tiny Ziploc baggies now? It makes it so much easier to bring along little bits and bobs of good stuff.

They fret, they fidget, and they tell me "I could never do that, I don't have enough patience." Not understanding that I do that because I don't have the patience to sit and wait without something to do.

That's the truth! My patience has run pretty thin now, I have spent the day readying pics of one of my grandsons graduation from high school for a DVD, picked some music, edited that so it is the correct length (I'm too anal to have the music just stop) organised it all and now find it won't burn. I stayed calm, deadly calm, and decided in the end I would give in and purchase the Ulead Movie Factory and end the problem. Which I did.

For some reason (probably because Corel has bought out Ulead, just as it did Paint Shop Pro and ruined it) the purchase key code they gave me is rejected as invalid arrrrrghhh arrrrggggh arrrgetty arrrgggh !

I have fired off a pithy email to their 'support' hah ~ I hate computers, I hate email and I just about hate everything round about now argggghhhhh!

I feel slightly better now for having ranted lol

You're so right! I often hear just those words and it's generally from someone who can sit on the couch watching some mindless show on TV and just vegetate, while waiting for something to happen.

When I innocently ask how they get so patient and don't get bored with doing nothing, they turn it around and tell me they would never have the patience to do needlework, or knit, or whatever.

Different strokes for different folks. I sometimes wonder how many of us would be diagnosed with some kind of fidgeting problem and be given calming drugs nowadays?

Okay everyone--let's hear a collective sigh for Sheena and her frustrations.

I don't recall anybody ever accusing me of being an adult.

That's what I mean. When I was a kid they told my mother she had to teach me to sit still. She never managed to get me to do that but she did allow me to keep busy with books, or games, or needlework or whatever.

I'm still not much for sitting still, but I never had to take anything to change that. I just accepted that every so often someone was going to say, sit still. Now everyone seems to take a drug to stop that behavior.

My personal opinion about children being drugged up, for what it's worth, is that this came into vogue about the time that recess and PE started being cut from school curriculae. That energy just doesn't get released and it has to go somewhere.

As for adults taking drugs, I can only speak for myself. I still fidget and I still need to be doing something at all times and I still get bored if I'm not stimulated every minute of every day--but now I can actually focus on things that don't particularly interest me (but have to be done) and get them done.

I was so afraid it would put a damper on my creativity, but it hasn't. It's just channeled it and allowed me to complete projects. I have a lot fewer UFOs that will always stay UFOs but not officially abandoned (leaving me guilt-ridden for not finishing them) now than I did before. Also, I can Just Say No to serial starting.

The other thing it does is make my job bearable. I've been transcribing for a living since I was 16 years old. I work at home, I can work in my jammies (but I don't), my kids aren't in day care, I don't have office politics, and I can indulge my hermitude--but I just hate transcribing. I have the perfect setup, but I hate that I have a college degree and that I'm still doing the same work I was doing when I was a teenager to make a living. So the drugs make it bearable for me to do.

Yep. One of my cousin's kids came home from school with a note from Teacher that he needed Ritalin. No, what he needed was a teacher who challenged him. We'd seen the kid sit in a chair for hours on end playing games. He was fidgety because he was bored.

Consider that fortunate !

I think the lack of hobbies and toys that required fine motor control in today's children forms the root of ADHD and it's associates. They don't learn that patience and persistence has a reward at the end.

BTW - I drive my DH CRAZY since I need something in my hands at all times.. C

I think that just might be a bug in a needleworker's hard drive because so many of us are infected.

Speaking as someone who doesn't have it myself, but lives with it every day, that's not what causes ADHD. I suppose any of these things that people blame it on could cause some symptoms that might seem similar, but it's really about how the brain is wired. Being fidgety or active is only one symptom of just some types of ADHD (and far from the most significant one in terms the negative effects on one's life). There are tons of kids (and adults) with ADHD that didn't watch tons of tv, don't spend their lives in front of video games (though video games are particularly addictive to those with ADHD), had plenty of educational and fine motor control toys, had good parenting, get plenty of physical exercise, and so on.

Best wishes, Ericka
