what is this kind of quilting

Hello, I sew but am not a quilter. At a recent craft show, I saw these quilts made of fabric pieces composed into a scenery, or like a painting, rather than geometric patterns. Is there a special name for these kinds of quilts? I'd like to learn more.

One example is this

I would say that, as a group, these would be called 'picture quilts'; and that this could be subdivided into 'landscape' and 'portrait'. I don't know of any other *official* name for the category. . In message , Tippi writes

There are also some rather intricate paper foundation pieced patterns of dogs' heads. I've seen them for sale.

They have some similar patterns here:

I think you have to a subscriber to download them (it's like $15 a year -- so 2-3 patterns you like pays for it for a year)

that's a great site.

Also from searching on portrait and landscapte quilting, I found some good sites and books. Another term is pictorial quilting. Thanks to everyone!
