What to do?

I have two of three decisions made, and just can't manage the third decision! So I have come to all of you....

Decision #1 - I have 24 beautiful fat quarters sitting on my floor that play well together and are begging to become something even more beautiful. I might add a cream tone on tone as a background type color - not sure.

Decision #2 - I want to start cutting this beautiful fabric and prep it for hand piecing, so that I have something to carry with me to work on, or something to do while watching TV.

Decision #3 - I have no idea what kind of a pattern to make! Repetition of a single block would be great, so I don't have to cut a ton of different shapes and I don't have to concentrate too hard on piecing the blocks... So throw some ideas at me!

Ok, I'm off to Quilter's Cache to look around ...again

Tumbling blocks? Some small (like 3" finished) 9 patches? Shoo fly blocks? Bow Tie blocks?

There are a few ideas!

Here's a page of templates for one patch quilts that would be great for handpiecing. I especially like the Spinning Star.

An old-fashioned Dresden Plate is great for combining lots of different fabrics and looks lovely on a light background. For hand piecing, EPP is probably the easiest, really! Cut plate segments out of light card. Use a tacky glue stick to baste the straight edges, the kind that will peel off easily. Then do a little running stitch along the curved end to snug it up to the template. (No sewing through the card.) Put 2 panels RST and overcast the seam edge, using small stitches. Applique a circle to cover the hole in the middle. When the whole plate is sewn, press and applique to the background square. Carefully trim away fabric behind the plate and remove your templates so you can use them on the next one. Roberta in D

Those are great! I had forgotten what they were called - must have been too tired yesterday to remember one patch designs!

Thanks for the link!

Lemoyne Star is a pretty block with set in pieces, just right for hand piecing.
