Where is everyone

Just checking in - I've not had any posts since the 29th...

Is it me or is everyone out and about and trying to find some nice weather to enjoy.

I'm here! I had a snafu with my newsgroup provider- my credit card company froze my account when they got an out-of-the-country charge from individual.net and I lost my newsgroup service over the weekend. I thought it was just me not getting any messages for not paying my bill. LOL

Thanks for letting me know it wasn't that! ;-)

It has been almost too quiet. Makes me wonder what everyone is up to. We did have a flurry of activity about the tragic storms in the south and the royal wedding, but other than that . . .

So what's every> Just checking in - I've not had any posts since the 29th...

Well, maybe out in the garden? Maybe sitting in front of the tv watching royals, popes and terrorists? It is a busy time of year. I got the varigated thread for my tumbler quilt and am stitching away on that. It is looking good but golly it is heavy. I'm taking a break from that and the garden to sneak out for lunch with a friend in a bit though. Are you learning to enjoy the new to you flowers and plants in GA Cindy? Taria

I'm here, getting ready for another round of dental work at 1 p.m. today. Yuck. But yesterday, yesterday was sublime! Gorgeous weather ... we planted our lower yard garden yesterday. The only missing plants are ones I have to order online. So much fun. And it looks amazing. I'll be posting photos of it, one day this week. I'm soooooooooo happy. We are growing good things again and beauty (and the birds and butterflies, bees and lizards) have returned to our garden.

I am recovering from Quilting Withdrawal Syndrome; had to shove the baby stuff aside and make a 'real quilt'. Really. With a pattern and everything! I've made an interesting discovery. You know that method of doing Flying Geese where you're supposed to take a rectangle and two squares, stitch the squares diagonally across the ends of the rectangle and create a perfect goose? Well. That doesn't work so well for me. Could be a math or cutting error but I don't think so; I did both Very carefully. The very center of the goose where she's supposed to be pointing with a quarter-inch to spare wasn't happening. Somehow, mine were coming too close to the edge. I've found that if I slip the side of the 2nd square just the least bit - maybe 1/32" - is better. Much better. Didn't want any headless geese. YMMV Polly

I'm busy putting away my Paducah treasures and picking up the house. Then, since Friday is my regular day off, I'm itching to get started on a new quilt. Unfortunately, there is some mending to do first.

I've subscribed to rctq for almost 15 years - have never seen so few posts until now!

I'm getting ready to go to a quilting retreat (my very first!) that starts this Sunday. What a great way to celebrate Mother's Day! Getting all the fabric cut for a quilt for my great-granddaugter's "Big Girl Bed". I hope to get most of it pieced while at the retreat.

Not sure what to expect. The quilt retreat is being held at a camp that only serves vegetarian - no meat, no fish, no poultry. Don't know how that's going to work with my Coumadin diet since I can't eat big amounts of green leafy vegetables.

I'm here. I'm keeping track of you gals/guys, but not quite back in the "quilting frame of mind" yet. ME-Judy

I check in regularly, but haven't posted for a while.

Haven't done much quilting lately, haven't felt like it. My dear friend who was fighting cancer lost her battle a couple of months ago now and that knocked me sideways a bit. Her kids are coping well, but the family will be returning to the UK in the summer and my kids will miss them, so thank goodness for the internet.

However, the garden is now calling me!! Have started picking mangetout peas, peas, strawberries and cherries!!! Potatoes are just beginning to break through the soil as well.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Janner. Something like that can definitely impact your life for a while.

Congrats on your first garden, Louise! The biggest challenge in a garden seems to be weed control. You have to keep up on it daily or every other day. Once the weeds get ahead of you... well, it's really, really hard work trying to play catch-up. Have fun- gardening is a wonderful past-time and the goodies are amazing. I love grazing in my garden for lunch... or breakfast or dinner!

I don't attempt a food sort of garden; the critters would win. Rabbits, raccoons and squirrels ... last year a pair of foxes and some wild pigs annoyed my neighbors just all the time. However, I do have a few pots of Christmas peppers and so far, none of the furry guys have noticed. Some sort of bug took a few bites of the peppers' leaves yesterday so I coated them with soap bubble foam. Hope that worked. The bugs need to understand that I am determined. Polly

We need both weed AND rabbit control! And, of course, some warmer weather. We had a freeze last night, too, but it looks like everything survived it.

I sure am Taira but now all the new to me flowers are gone for the year. Getting to be a real busy time for me. Headed back to STL on Friday for a wedding shower for my future DIL on Saturday, going to the Cards game for Mother's Day on Sunday with one of my kids, coming back to ATL on Monday or Tuesday and then chilling until we go back at the end of the month for the real thing.

I have a good system for critter control- my garden is always a small fenced area inside the chain link fence around my side and back yards. My HairyButt Gang use their doggy door to come and go as they please from the house to the yard- and they keep the critters away. Except for one unlucky HUGE ground hog. I found him dead on my kitchen floor! My 'ferocious' (HA!!!) dogs killed him and left him there for me.... to cook for their dinner, I guess??? YUCK.

And an old time deterrent to critters in the garden is urine from a carnivorous creature. Can you convince your DH to tinkle on the perimeter of your garden? (Assuming he's not a vegetarian...) ROFLOL

Well, I am here and there. Not a lot of posts at all, and I miss all the chatter. But yes there are newer, easier to get to groups around.

A very, very dear friend died very suddenly last month. I have been trying to cope with that, helping his wife with things and am in the midst of a total clear out and reorganization of much of my house..... including the sewing rooms. I decided that fighting the sewing table I have had for 20+ years was doing more harm than good. So ordered a new one to go with my new sewing machine. (My workhorse Viking#1 is on its last legs, they no longer make parts for it and the last couple of things involved the power supply. ) I got a very good deal from my "boss" (I work for store credit helping with organizing and sorting and keeping books/patterns sorted at the shop.) So I now own a Bernina

635 LEE. But it is still at the shop because I don't have the room set up yet. Was going along well, and the tables, which were supposed to take 6-8 weeks, got here in just under 4 weeks. SO....... a couple of friends came over and a large part of my sewing room was transferred to the Mobile Mini and front room. I have little idea where anything specific is. Since then I am working through clutter and piles of stuff that has been accumulating for about 10-20 years. Yikes.... It is possible to have too much fabric. And the UFOs I am finding!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway work is happening, including on the RWB huggs, but slowly. I want to sew...........

Have fun, Pati, in Phx
