Simon says he double-dog-dares ya to try a stash raid! ;-) I just got a big shock the other day. I read on some 'famous' quilter's website to never use rayon thread in the bobbin. Oopsie! I've done that for many, many years. Guess I'm a bad- and ignorant- quilter! LOL

And the reason for not using rayon thread in the bobbin is...?? I guess it's not something I'd try unless I was doing bobbin work and I wanted the bobbin thread to show on the top. Any reason why I shouldn't do that?

Julia, she didn't say why to not use rayon in the bobbin. I'm just a big fan of using like thread in the top and bottom- exceptions being 12 wt. cotton thread, metallics, invisible, etc.

I'm the same way. I've used rayon in the bobbin much of the time--also monofilament. Gen

I've given this 'to not use rayon in the bobbin' notion a few minute's thought and don't get anywhere with it. Would it maybe be weaker? Weaker than what? Makes my head hurt. Please pass the chocolate. Polly

Gen: you rebel!!!

We're gonna' tell, we're gonna' telllllll... but who?

I've had good results using rayon in both, though it did have a tendancy to smell if I went too fast!

Cheers Anne

Oftentimes I think the "rules" are passed on from generation to generation, usually unquestioned. I remember hearing that you should use cotton thread with cotton quilts, because...? The thread man on TQS nixed that notion, saying that non cotton threads, esp in the bobbin, are great because the lint isn't a big deal with non cottons.

Well I am too, because I've used rayon in the bobbin on occassion. As far as I know, none of my quilts have fallen apart yet.

Does it stretch while it winds? That's the only reason I could think of that someone might not like rayon in the bobbin.
