12inch Paper Trimmers??

when using the fiskars... put downward pressure on the cutting blade and always start from the top.... alot of ladies in my classes had this problem and its resolved now... make sure you keep steady pressure...

I have that same problem with mine too. I have been "shopping" around for a while. I saw the cutterpede when I took a class. The lady liked hers but she said when they made the newer one, they designed it so it wouldn't be so hard to remove the cutting carriage when changing it. She said that now when you raise the bar that holds the paper down, if the carriage is at the wrong end, it falls out. But she likes it a lot.

I am looking at getting the Carl. One of the ladies that owned the SB store said that she preferred that one because you can change the cutting cartridges for different blades. I found the Carl on the QVC website and it comes with a regular blade plus 2 decorative (deckle and Victorian) and the price is $21.97 and $4.47 for shipping. I would imagine there is tax also.

I like green so I thought the Cutterpede was pretty:o) but I think QVC has a good deal for the Carl and it looks nice, too.

Yes, with CM there is a straight one I use for cutting 12 paper, when my Fiskars isn't handy. Plus with the new blades with designs you can get different edges like using silly scissors.

I've also found that when I pull down (start at the top) I have not had any problems with straight edge. If I push (start at the bottom), 90% of the time I fail. I'd love to get a rotary cutting system, just don't have the money for it yet ;(

I just replaced my fiskars with a Cutterpede. No matter what littl etip or trick I used, I never got a straight edge. Now I find with the cutterpede that you have to use more pressure, but at least the cuts come out straight!

I have a cutterpede and looove it! I tried shopping around for a Carl but they're hard to find, around here anyway. I don't want anything that I can't take back to the store if I'm unsatisfied. That's why I don't buy online. Anyway, The cp is really easy to use once you get the hang of it. It didn't take me long to catch on at all. You just have to get used to pushing down on the blade as you're pulling it. As far as lining it up goes, it's just as easy as the fiskars. It's actually larger than the fiskars too. I highly recommend the Carl 12" personal rotary trimmer PRT100. I have the Fiskars and just don't think it's possible to get a straight cut from it. I tried the cutterpede but it seemed difficult to use.

I bought the Carl PRT100 from QVC and absolutely love it. It gives nice straight clean cuts, is easy to use, has a quick change blade with optional decorative blades available, has grid markings on both sides of the cutting blade, has a see through paper hold down, swing out arm that measures to 14", etc. Did I say I just love this? I can cut 1/4" or any size strips with ease because the grid markings are so well set up on either side of the blade.

QVC has the trimmer packaged with two extra decorative blades at a very reasonable price, item #F6437.

I can't count how many different paper trimmers I have tried looking for one to give a nice clean straight cut. I am extremely happy with the Carl.

hanks for the input. I decided on the Carl. I was going to order it from QVC but one of the LSS carries them. They also offer a 25% off cupon. It was a great deal, I did not have to pay the exchange rate, shipping or duty since I am in Canada. Have not had a chance to use it. Will let you know what I think.

I paid $34.49 (reg. 45.99) plus 7% sales tax here in Alberta. The total price was $36.90. It did not include the extra blades as seen on QVC. They are $8.99 each. If ordering from QVC there is the regular shipping plus an additional $4.00, plus duty and Canadian taxes. That would put it well over $50 Canadian.

I chose this one because the rotary blade is larger and can cut through 7 sheets of paper. I tend to double and triple matt photos. The Fiskars would not cut the third matt.

I will let you know how I like it.

I absolutely love my cutterpede! I'm so glad I invested the few $$$ in it. My fiskars is still in the house and will get used on occasion, but it's second fiddle now. I also use the CM system, but it's more "tedious" to deal with these days, for straight cuts anyways... still like the other parts of it :) SOoooooooooo... whatcha getting? LOL

I use a RotaTrim made in the UK. It's a 'pro' trimmer sold from pro photo shops for trimming photos. But, it can cut a variety of things, including tissue or poster board up to 3mm thick. I like the safety of a concealed rotary blade which never needs sharpening.

I did some pricing research just a couple days ago on them, and this site has them the cheapest on the web (s&h is expensive for these beasts ;'):
