Absolute newbie

I have never done any scrapbooking at all, but I have a need to mount two photographs each for five events for one organisation. The photos are a small group photo and a large group photo.

I am giving it some thought and have decided that I would like the five pages to each be different (there will be more in the future).

I'm not sure what to do with the photos other than crop them into rectangles and rectangles don't offend me. The idea of cutting out group photos is a nuisance.

The theme for all of these is broadly butterflies so that will connect all the pages.

Question about materials and glue? Can I use fabric glue and fabric on the backing card paper and the photos? I have plenty of pretty fabric, with access to lots more, but limited amounts of good paper. Then I can get the wording printed on paper and paste that on the fabric. What other glues are acid free?

Thanks.

Hi Moira,

The sky is the limit to the creativity and materials one can use to design a scrapbook page. You'll have to take a field tip to a local Scrapbook store and see what's available. I'm sure the people working there could steer you toward the glues and what nots you'll need. Not much is needed to get started. Buying an album was my biggest outlay to start. If you don't need an album you'll just need some glue, maybe a black pen and any accent paper you may want. Read the past posts here and look for "Luna" she just did her first album and it turned out quite lovely.

Welcome Moira! Glue Dots are acid free and works on just about everything. Also it's not messy at all. HTH!

I'd probably go for an acid free spray glue, myself. But I like things to be stuck down more than in just a few places like with the dots.

Incidentally, if it's fabric that frays and you don't want to hem everything, there are products for that like Fray Stop or Fray Check that work wonderfully.

Or, you could wrap some pla> Welcome Moira! Glue Dots are acid free and works on just about everything.

Welcome to the world of scrapping Moira! Fabric is wonderful to use in scrapping. I'm not sure about the fabric glue, though. Does the bottle say acid free? If it doesn't , it's probably not. The good news is that you can use Glue Dots instead. Glue Dots hold anything down. You can also try sewing your fabric. If you want to use it as the background, you could sew it to a plain piece of white (or other neutral color) cardstock. The RCS website has lots of wonderful information on it. Luna,

If you like the whole thing to be stuck down you will probably love the XYRON. You run the picture through it and the whole thing sticks down like a sticker. I only have the small one but I'm sure some of the ladies here can tell you about the bigger sizes. It's not messy like the messes you were talking about in other posts.
