WHat might have I done?

This blue shaggy dog is cursed!!!

Sigh - I took my "newish with a few fancy stitches" machine apart. Nothing I shouldn't, but I cleaned it using this

as a guide. All yarn, I figured that fuzz might be building up...I guess I should always go by "if it ain't broke don't fix it."Now my needle is hitting something and breaking. I took the threads out, and ran it first by hand, then as slow as I can on this machine to see if I could see what it is jamming on, but it seems ok. I put the threads back, run about 3" and jam - snap - needle breaks. I'm out of needles right now, so I dug out my old "all-metal works with no fancy stitches" machine to sew with for this afternoon.

I don't really want to take this thing to a shop - it is Sears Kenmore machine that was a gift, and I've never had much luck with it. I don't even work it hard!

If I had to guess, I would say it has something to do with the bobbin housing. But it doesn't seem like there's a wrong way to reassemble it.

Argh - any thoughts?

Perhaps you didn't put the bobbin case base in properly? So as the bobbin rotates, the opening for the needle isn't aligning properly?

Or, it may be from not putting the needle in all the way?

Are you putting the bobbin in the right way up?

That would be my guess, but I'll be darned if I can see where it's mucking up. It only fits in one way - it doesn't seem like there is any room for error.

I'm quite frustrated. But I have my old machine out. I love it - I always forget what joy it is to sew on it.

OK...you mentioned you had taken it all apart so I wondered if you'd taken the bobbin case base (the part the bobbin case sits in) out of the machine as well. These can be tricky to get back in properly.

What did you take off/apart?

I didn't take out the whole bobbin case, though I did take out the race hook. (Had to go look at the page for the name...) I have taken it apart twice now, and I just don't see how to put it together any other way. :)

- could certainly be my problem, eh?

DH reminded me that I had similiar trouble when I got the thing brand new. That time though, IIRC, there was a metal burr that was jamming things up. I filed it off and it went fine after that.

It's gotta be that piece - those parts. I'll check to see if I put the bobbin in backwards (usually it just knots and breaks when I do that...)then I'll take the whole thing apart tomorrow when the light is better.

Thanks to all - I'll post tomorrow and tell you you were right (hopefully!)
