Another Paper Storage Question

Ok I know this question has been posted time and time again. I recently switched over to unused pizza boxes for my 12 x 12 paper storage (as this option is free when you walk into a pizza place. Lol). I got one of the slab packs for Christmas and just hate to break up the set to divide it into colors. My question is, do any of you slabbers kep your slabs together or do you divide them up with the colors. And if you divide your papers up, how many catagories do you have? I was thinking just the main color groups and keeping lights and darks together. Like all blues in one box kind of thing. But then I run into papers that just don't fit any any one color. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks

Great questions. I've been wondering the same thing. How do I break up my slabs. Considering I just bought 3 different ones.

Wow, I had a similar question last night. I was trying to orgaize my patterend papers and couldn't figure out the best way to do it, especially if you have a slab, then you know that color is not always the best way to do it. I started out by organizing the slab by theme, I have the categories of textiles, stripes, metals, paint effects, nature, and so on. In each of those categories, I organized by color. Then I went through my other papers and organized them into the slab if they fit the category. If they did not, I put them in their own group. If they came as a set, they are stored separately. The Holiday slab pack was organized by season. I also have my cardstock and paper separated too. I am pretty happy with the results.

HI.

I tend to separate my slabs into color hues. I tend to find it helps me organize better and crop faster.

I'm very visual and I like flipping through blues, yellows, pinks etc to get the right color for a photo. I also keep the card stock and 8.5 x 11" paper separate too.

Then again, it is what makes you happy that counts.

I wonder what the Paper King himself has to say about this. From reading the newsgroup. It sounds like he has the most paper of everyone? Well, DAVE!

Kimberly, although I don't have a huge stash for scrapbooking I do tend to group card/paper by colour. Pads/slabs however, I tend to keep together, as they generally feature a picture of each paper on the front cover. This method may change over the months but it is easy when you only have a small amount :o(

Thank you all for the suggestions. I am still waiting to hear what Dave has to offer since he IS the king of paper! I decided to keep my slab together like everyone has suggested as the colors are all complimentary and saves me from having to try to match them on my own. The rest of my paper, well that is a whole other ball game. I have some I have had for two years that I don't know what to do with. Lol Guess I will get it all organized eventually. Just in time to add more paper to my collection! LOL

I found things to match the slabs at JoAnn's on clearance after Christmas. Sandy

I haven't gotten into the slabs yet, but as it sounds others were doing last night, I too was organizing my paper. I have my themed papers categorized ie: Christmas, Halloween, babies, school days, children, weddings & romance, springtime, summertime, heritage, birthdays, et cetera, and then I also have general color sections where I put solids or patterned papers of a specific color for example if it were blue with polka dots it's filed with the blue papers. Those multicolored papers, they're the troublemakers. I tend to hold them out in front of me, blur my vision and whatever color stands out from the page is what I consider dominant and file it that way. When I do purchase a book of papers they are broken up and categorized. It's so much easier to consider everything together and in an organized fashion rather than having books and singles without any organization to it. It helps so much with the planning. And because my solids are seperate it's easy for me to find the complementary papers to match my patterned papers.

Hi Kim,

I shave always sorted my paer and stickers into different themes or categories. Some of mine are colr blocking, stripes, plaids, geometric designs, nature, animals, trees aand tree parts and the one that you are having trouble with, mixed non patterned colors. (which btw are MY FAVORITES!!) I also have a couple other categories that I use but that pretty much covers it for me.

Hope this helps

Kim -

I just had just been keeping stuff together, but just recently thought I'd try the catagory method. Of course, since I re-arranged, I haven't been doing much scrapbooking, but I'll let you know! :)
