Christmas Cards

Ok, so thanks to my bazzill order arriving(waves to M-C) I've got a good head start on my Christmas cards. I'm making large tags (8x5in.) I have 100 card bases cut out of the various patterned papers in Basic Grey "fruitcake" "dasher" and "blitzen", about 50 mats cut in bazzil pomegranete red, and all the wired ribbon bows done on the top of the card bases.

I still have to punch the corners with a straight corner punch so they look like tags, cut the rest of the mats from Stampin up light blue (can't remember the name off hand) and Old olive, stamp the word "joy" at the bottom of the mat, mount photos and hand sign. I think I'm in pretty good shape for October 29! I'll post when I get a few done minus the photo since I haven't 100% decided on which photo I'm using yet.

Anyone else making cards this year? Have you started? How many do you make?

Sounds like you have a good head start! I havent started mine yet, and I think I sent out 35 last year, plus some I didnt make by hand. I have been "gathering" items to hopefully get started early. I need to find some good sayings to use inside, and I'm also having problems finding some new Christmas patterned paper to use. I have been to Michaels and HL. I may have to make a trip to Champaign or Mattoon (Daisy Lane!). Michaels had ZERO single sheet christmas paper(that wasn't 4 years old!) I was really disappointed in their selection of everything..same ol same ol stuff.. Wasnt impressed with Marthas stuff either.

Linda. We have an awesome scrapbook store on creasy lane here in Lafayette! It's only 1 hour and 15 minutes from you.

I preaddressed envelopes and when the card is done I photograph it and put it in the envelope with a stamp. I have box marked "Christmas Cards to Send" hanging off my wall so everytime one is done in the box it goes. I hope when I fill the last envelope I'll be done and I can breathe. When the heck did this year go by so quickly? LOL

That a great idea. I was wondering how many I'd need to make. So, if I preaddressed I get a count of how many I needed to make. Thanks Kate.

I have every intention of making cards this year, though the way it's going I'm not so sure I'll get there! LOL Supposed to go to Deb's on the 10th of next month to make cards....hopefully I'll get them started and then be able to finish before heading to Ft. Leonardwood for DS#1's graduation.

That is a really great idea. I found a website that has a countdown to Christmas (its supposed to help you organize so you're done with EVERYTHING by Dec 1) and it suggested splitting all your Christmas cards into 5 groups and working on one group a week. So far I haven't started that, but I really like your idea more! Especially when you're making your own cards, which I am, then you only end up making exactly as many as you need.

Thanks for the tip!!

There's a scrapbook store got "Scrapbooks" It is on Creasy right next door to Family Christen Store. I think that's the name of it. The scrapbook store used to be right down the road, but they just moved about a month ago to a bigger place. They have a lot of stuff that you don't see in Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Our Hobby Lobby moved also about 6 months ago to a new bigger place on creasy also.

I'm working on mine today. I want to get everything cut out and ready to go so I can take them with me and put them together on the cruise Melissa and I are going on. Hopefully I'll have them all finished when I get back.

Stores in Indy I have been to:

- small, but packed with great stuff and enlarging daily

- I loved this store

- like all of the other's in the chain, but I do love the fact they sell extra kits from their classes with complete instructions for making them which include pictures to show how it's done. My scrap group took a bus trip to Indy to these scrapbook stores. Sandy

Thats a great idea Kate! I usually make lists in groups..family, work, online, card club etc..to get an idea of how many I need to make, and which ones I need to mail.
