Christmas cards....make or buy?

So, who's making Christmas cards this year? If you're making them, have you started? How many do you plan on making? Making them all the same, or different designs? I'll answer in a new post. :-)

  1. Yes, I'm making my Christmas cards this year. A couple years, I've sent out purchased cards to those that, well...really don't care if they have a handmade card or not. I do have some purchased cards on hand, just in case. LOL

  1. No, I haven't started them yet. Why start early? LOL I know of a gal who, a year ago, already had her Christmas cards done. Not this year, so I don't feel bad. :-)

  2. I haven't made the list yet. I figure I'm looking at about 100. Gotta get a list made and have DH look at it. I usually either forget someone on the list, or put someone on the list that DH really doesn't want to send a card to or they won't care if they get one or not. I usually tend to forget people. It's a yearly thing...I make the list, then DH revises it. LOL

  1. I'm not sure if they'll all be the same or make up 2 - 4 different designs. Last year, I pretty much made them all different. I've planned them one year to do them all the same. All the same was waaaaayyyyyy too boring for me. Purposely making them all different was tough. So I may try to come up with 2 - 4 designs and make multiples of those.

Hello,

  1. Yes, I am planning on making Christmas cards this year. I have some purchased cards from previous years - which I might cut up and use parts of them on my cards.

  1. I haven't started yet, I haven't even started designing them yet.

  2. I haven't made up my list yet... I might make labour-intensive cards for my close friends and family and maybe some extra simpler ones... not sure yet

  1. I normally make a few basic designs which I then make into different cards, a different theme or different colour scheme using the basic designs. I think I would get a little bored doing exactly the same thing all the time (though I imagine this would be a quick way of doing it)

It may be only mid-October but time flies and soon it will be Christmas! Good time to start thinking about Christmas cards.

This Sunday I'm going to a Christmas card making party sponsored by my stampin' up rep--I did this last year and had a lot of fun! I'm looking forward to attending again this year. :-)

Can't believe it's almost Christmas!

  1. yes I am planning on making mine this year. I had loads of fun last year!
  2. No I have not started, but I have window shopped a little for supplies!
  3. Last year I think I made about 40
  4. Oh heavens...I make them different, and some are more decorated than others, depends on who gets them...lol I get all my Christmas stuff out and just randomly make them. Sometimes some are similiar, or I make 4 of one design. It makes it not so boring if they are all different in some way. Linda C

Good morning -

  1. I am planning to make them this year....but with the sick furbaby (who needs 2 a.m. feedings - yawn!...practise for human motherhood I guess), and other time issues....we'll see. :)

  1. Haven't started yet, keep meaning to. Last year I had a day where I was able to just go work on them all day, and it was a great way to get started!

  2. I think I did 40 last year....I generally keep making them until I run out of time or energy....then prioritize who gets a handmade one, or a spare bought one.

  1. I usually grab my box o supplies, and make it up as I go along....but some where such hits last year, I may try to reacreate them...

Good topic Deb!

1) I will be making the majority of my Christmas cards this year. I too have some people on my list that just don't care about handmade items soooo they will get premade cards.

2) You will never believe this.... I started last weekend. I still can't believe I started already. The reason I started though was because I make the prototypes and my mom and sister pick from them which cards they want to make. Sooo I have made two prototypes that I am happy with.

3) I am hoping only to make around 30 to 40.

4) Last year I made them all the same which was way boring. I am planning on making several 4 different designs (that is if I can think of that many).

Yes I'm making them... and they'll all be different (I hate repeating designs on handmade cards - if I wanted them to be all the same I might as well go out and buy them!) I don't really know how many I need to make this year - last year it was over 150 but that was way too many and I burnt out making them all... I'm not going to bother to make cards for family/friends in Australia because I didn't get a single one from any of them since I moved two years ago. (I'm not trying to be all bitter and twisted here, but I'm tired of thinking of people who don't think of me - it's too expensive and too much work for people who aren't going to appreciate it.) I'm just going to do the organised card swaps on my card-making groups because I know they appreciate them.

I haven't started making them yet, but I've pulled all the christmas supplies from my collection in preperation, and today I've been cutting tags from christmas-coloured cardstock with my colluzzle.

I'll be doing that too - it worked really well last year and helps to keep the mountain of received cards down to a decent size! (one card-mailing list I'm on mostly uses bought cards but there are 80 people on the list, so I get a LOT!

Don't feel guilty at all about cutting down your Christmas card list. My DH and I use to send out about 100 Christmas cards each year. One Christmas I had a 3 year old and a 3 month old and I was totally overwhelmed. I didn't send out cards knowing that friends and family would understand. 2 weeks into December I hadn't received one single Christmas card. By Christmas I had received about 10.

This was a good thing... it made me realize that 90 cards that came to me each year were only, because I had sent them one. It sure made sending out cards easy after that. I only send out to very close family and friends and maybe a new friend here and there. I probably send out 25 cards each year. Really helps put that postage into other things at Christmas time.

Good question Deb.

I PLAN on making mine, like last year. I truly had a lot of self satisfaction in making them, even though they were all the same design. I agree with you on that issue, it did bore me!!

I have not started them yet, probably like most everything I do, will be at the last minute, like Thanksgiving weekend start them. Yea right with being gone on a show trip, starting and doing my holiday decorating and another lady who I do every year her house.

I will need at least 60 and plan to make different ones, varied at least some from one to another and in case I get behind, do not have time, or whatever I already have some boughten ones on hand.

((Hugs!))

I will be making my own christmas cards this year.

I have started on my cards have 2 or 3 made, but its a start.

Haven't made my card list yet. I plain to send christmas cards to my online friends something I haven't done in the past. I'll probably end up with about 30 cards I would say. I don't make cards for my co workers, I buy a box of cards after christmas sale so I have plenty.

Next Saturday I'm attending a SU Holiday Stamp Camp so I hope to get more ideas. My DH likes to receive a card that is different from everyone elses. Everyone else don't care if they are the same. I used to make everyone a completely different card but as the years go by I run out of ideas (because I already used that stamp set or style already). I'll stick to 3 designs at the most.

  1. Yes, I plan on making my cards again this year. Nope not done yet, still don't have any ideas, maybe 'cause I've been making so many other cards.....

  1. Who could that be??? : )

  2. Have the list of people to make for. Don't have that many as I don't send handmade ones to the people that don't care.

  1. I am hoping when I go to SU! Next month the ladies will be a great source of inspiration!! : )

I'm making cards. I have a design, just need to find paper. My daughter designed the card, but she used paper that we can't find anywhere. So, I am on the hunt for a new paper that will work for her design.

I make about 50 of them, all the same. It is easier to do all the cutting and get everything ready and then we just sit down and assemble them all.

I made all mine last year for the first time. I ended up making some very last minute ones, as I ran out. This year I've made a few, all different (I don't like to make them all alike), but since I need 9 birthday cards- and

11 ATC's- before the first of November, the Christmas cards will have to wait a bit.

There are 7 people in my office. 6 of us have birthdays in November, 4 on the same weekend. Now what are the odds on that?

I'm going to try and make them this year. I have only ever made christmas cards for 3 or 4 people a year, and the rest are bought. But I think I'll make the effort to have maybe 4 different designs and try to send out about 30-40.

What do you write in your Christmas cards? Do you have a standard message for all people? Previously I have written individual "mini" letters to my few really close friends, but this might be a bit hard when making 30-40 cards!

I actually enjoy sending out Christmas cards I've made. Usually, the people oo and ahhh over them, and then I know they like them.

I have several Christmas greeting stamps (Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Ho-ho-Holidays, etc) that I usually stamp on the inside.

Every year I plan to make my own Christmas cards. It usually doesn't happen. This year I am planning to make them. I think we usually give out/ send out 30 to 50. I have to check my list and update it. They will probably be very similar. I am contemplating making them digitally and then printing them in which case I would use 1 or 2 designs.
