I know you can make sweet little gift boxes out of them, but I can't remember how:>( Try

Cathy...here in the UK Tesco's supermarket offers a recycling service for christmas cards. They run a TV ad to encourage people to deposit them at their stores when you go for groceries. They can use them to produce products.......like own-brand recycled toilet paper. You could also cut out anything that you could turn into a card topper.....then recycle the remainder. That is what I do and it helps to save forests :o)

I use cut out bits to make Christmas gift bags. You can either spray them with archival spray, or don't worry about it. Most of the people you give them to won't keep them for the long haul anyway.

I go through and cut out what I know I will use on a scrapbook page. I have a LOT of Christmas pages to do lol. I spray the cut outs with Archival Mist and then affix them to my layouts.

I've just put up a Cork Board in my Scrap room and all the hand made cards I receive from friends in this group, I'm displaying there (will take phodies and post this weekend). For the rest from family and friends, well I keep them and will try to incorporate them in future LO's. Yes, I know I'm a hoarder, but I just can't manage to get myself so far is to discard them.

Cathy, sometimes I will cut parts or them out and use them for making my own cards.. Some special ones ,I may put into pockets on a page of Christmas LO. Kids love to create with them ,too. One of my GKs made her a scrapbook with Christmas cards. It was cute.

I actually did that several years ago. I scanned both front/back, inside/outside. Printed them out, then painstakingly cut them out and put them together like they should be. I then used them in my LO. They turned out great! Definately a must do at least once!

Thanks for posting this thread Cathy, this has given me some great ideas... I, like Judy seem to hang on to old cards I can't bring myself to throw them out.... With these new ideas I'll be able to put them to good use and still keep as precious momentos.

Hi Cathy,

I just made some Christmas ornaments out of mine this year... well they were previous years cards. I'll take a picture of it and share. What I did was using my Creative Memories cutting system I cute 2 inch circles of the cutest parts of the cards. Then I discarded the rest of the card. The picture will tell you the rest. Saved a lot of space when I recycled the rest of the cards.

I have some cute tags for presents and decorations that my grandmother and my mother cut out of their Christmas cards as much as 50 years ago. They have been used year after year, and are still in good shape. Mom rarely saved the entire card- she cut out the design and saved that. I've discovered that I can copy these designs (in different sizes, if I want), and use them on handmade cards, scrapbook pages, or wrapped presents, and keep the originals put away. Most of the original cutouts have a "to/from" on the back in my grandmother's or my mother's handwriting, which makes them even more precious. My granddaughter's card this year featured one of my favorite designs, copied and glued to the card. Someday she will get the original. But in the meantime, I expect to get many more Christmases out of it, and all the others like it. Ain't technology wonderful!

All these great ideas!! I just remembered my Mom cutting out shapes & using an (old style) hole punch & letting us stitch around the edges with pretty ribbons to make Christmas ornaments & gift tags. How could I have forgotten that? She even did it with my own kids!:>)

I made a lot of this year's christmas cards using the nicest bits of last years cards... I'm sure it saved me a lot of money on embellishments! You can also make them into ornaments, or gift boxes (I did this with kids once - they come out really sweet...) or bookmarks or decoupage them onto boxes...

You can either make little trinket boxes out of them, or use the fronts of them to make gift tags for next years gifts.
