DIY MARATHON

Hey Ladies

Today was definitely NOT a good day.

First, my email stopped working. Don't ask. I can't even begging to explain. All it matters is that it woks now.

Then the newsgroup. No new posts after friday morning. I finally ended up using Forte Agent. Come to find out, I had been reading just about

60% of the posts. Aword of advice for those of you who use Outlook, you might want to switch to something else.

Then *The Marathon*

*sigh* A dissapointment from the second I got my kit. Just cardstock and sort of cute tags, but nothing I would really like to use, UNLESS they would have done some projects on DIY using the kit. But the most I saw was one demonstrator making mats out of one of the cardstocks from the kit. That will make me feel like I got my money's worth (*right*)

Last but not least, am I the only one or did the so called marathon just felt like a whole bunch of new shows played back to back?

For the ones of you w/o DIY go to their message board

will see all the posts from other dissapointed folks. Some are even talking about returning their kit, which I hadn't reallythought about.

Ok, that's enuff venting for one post. I don't want to scare anybody =)

Sorry I haven't post this week, but it was really busy at work. It was so bad, I had 4 margaritas thursday night and I only drink 2 the most and on weekends. I'd better shut up or no one will ever speak to me again =)

Hi Angie,

I felt like it was pretty much just back to back shows too, but kind of expected it to be that as the ads were touting 'all new shows' and such. I got excited when they had their 'cropping challenge' thing but then they glossed over it so quickly when they showed off their work that I didn't really get to see what each lady did. :o( My hubby started out actually watching this and left with the comment "Is this all it is? A half hour of commercials for products that is broken up by commercials for other products?" He spent the rest of the day in the basement teaching my oldest son to do electrical/telephone/network wiring to get his new bedroom finished up.

As for the kit, I ordered it too. Quality wise I thought it was pretty good. Would I have picked out those particular papers? Probably not. But I'll most likely find some use for them, or pass them on to a friend or something. I too was (mistakenly) under the impression they might actually use this stuff during the shows. I had considered joining Club Scrap (after I use up some of the stuff I've collected during this newbie/excitement/obsession phase) but I'm not sure I like the idea of someone else picking out my supplies. I might order from their 'available to anyone' stuff from time to time though. We'll see.

Overall, I got some ideas and tips, The one idea I wanted to print out came up 'page not available' on the website-bummer, but I didn't stick around to the end. A dinner date with my guys, even at the little mom and pop place near here, will win out over anything, even scrapbooking lol.

Angie..So sorry to hear of all the aggravating stuff...but now you feel better!! LOL I am always disappoited when it comes to watching the scrapping on DIY. I think it is because we (on this group ) have access to so much knowledge and tips right here and show the work ,that we are ahead of most of the scrappers. Many times the LSSs don't have the up to date stuff we already know about. Most of us subscribe to least one sb magazine and go to workshops, attend crops on a regular basis and go to get togethers when ever and share with the group. If there is something out there we don't know about...we just ask the group and someone will not only know ...they will share helpful hints. Hugs,

Sabrina :-)

Angie - Sorry you day wasn't all you wanted it to be -- hoping today will be better - I was always told if we didn't have the bad days when would we know we had good ones! A thought anyway.

As to Forte Agent - I love it and have used it for 3 yrs now -- so much easier then trying to fight with Outlook and it's free too!

The Marathon - I read the forum as you suggested - and it seems there were not too many pleased with the kit or the marathon. Hopefully you can return the kit. It's understandable why most were disappointed - definitely not a "CROP" as we know it!

I didn't buy the kit - but I did enjoy watching the shows --- hated all the "info" commercials but I did pick up quite a few tips. I've been wanting to venture into "other techniques" but having little to no exposure - only what I've seen in mags and read on the group - I've been "chicken" to incorporate them into my layouts. Unfortunately - being a perfectionist by nature - I prefer to "see how" and then have instructions to follow - so - I've been inspired and ready to try something different.

In fact - I am incorporating Andrea Grossman's "flip book" on the last page of my "Christmas 2002" LO - which also finishes up this album.

So hopefully - with the starting of my new album for 2003 - (nothing like being behind almost a year) I will be able to get way from the "everything" has to be square/even and engineered (that comes from working with engineers everyday - build to the print! sort of speak).

I liked the cropping challenge too, but was very dissapointed when they spent about 1/2 a sec on each LO. I thought that was insulting to the "experts" =) My 2 cents...
