Embellishment Box is ready to go again!

Okay, the Embellishment Box is all packed up (a MAJOR job- there is no room!) and ready to go again. Here's what I took out:

2 ornate silver mini frames 4 metal bookplates 1 Winter title sticker 1 birthday bead set 4 different ribbons 1 set mini alpha brads 1 sheet cat stickers (I can't resist cat stickers) 2 sheets winter corner stickers 1 bag micro beads 2 Christmas diecuts 1 stocking brad 10 pieces metallic confetti, different shapes

This is what I put in:

2 sheets letter stickers 1 pack beaded baby rattles 2 large snowflake brads 10 blue flower eyelets a mini heart stamp an almost as mini butterfly stamp a set of Halloween buttons 3 mini metal frames 8 chipboard hearts, two sizes a set of Autumn title buttons a set of 3 wooden stickers 6 mini bows, different colors 4 shaped wood and plastic buttons 5 embrordered mini patches (amazing what you can find in the button aisle) a set of puzzle shaped word stickers and a bunch of assorted shaped brads.

And from here, the box goes...

way back up north to....

Dorothy in NY! Have fun with it!

Oh my gosh! I know I am new ....but you've been having fun around here. What fun this embellishment seems to be. I love the idea of this box being shipped around the country...with all sorts of goodies inside. I just looked back further in the archives to see the information on this box. This is fun! I participated in many swaps over the years, but I've never heard of one like this. How different and exciting this is. Where or who came up with this idea?

This is a round robin swap meaning that the box is sent out by Deb in AR, goes to every person on the list and is then returned to Deb. After Deb checks the box and adds those people who are interested to the new list, the box goes on its merry way again.

The box is curently going around. When it is returned to Deb in AR, (who is the "Mom" of the box) she will review what is in it, clean it up and send it out for the next round. When she is ready, she will post a call to RCS to see who is interested. Eligible members are most often required to send in a contribution to update the box. In addition, you are required to mail the box in a flat rate priority box and track and insure it. Because of problems with cost, customs and duty/import taxes, the box is not mailed outside the US.

Because aour participating members put money into the box, the group determined a while ago that you need to be a regular poster for three months to be eligible. For the record it used to be 6 and is not likely to go below

  1. You become a regular member by posting 2-3 posts per week which consist of more than Thanks for sharing. Long time members who return to the group are assessed on past performance and normally allowed to join the next round. A members status is checked via yahoo groups, so be sure that if you've changed your email or screen name that you let the hostess know. If you have participated in previous swaps, the way you conducted yourself during those swaps is also considered. If you have not completed a previous swap without good reason and did not inform the hostess but made her email you repeatedly or have the habit of being late and making everyone in the group wait fior you, you may be asked to sit out swaps and particularly this one. Note that most of our swaps abide by the 3 month rule, but that in most cases, the hostess has the discretion to lower the time requrement. However, in doing so, the hostess realizes that she is then resposible to ensure that the participants all receive what they are expecting.

Please note that the use of hostess does not restrict our male members from hosting or participating in swaps.

Hope this helps. The Embelishment page on our website will be updated when the next round is announced.

I've jut posted how it works. The embelishment box was originally part of the scrapbox round robin. However in time it became too expensive and difficult for the scrapbox to be shipped around so it was decided to split the two. Because it is harder and more expensive to ship paper and it is more easily available, it was then decided to stop having a scrapbox.

We also as a result of experience decided that people could only add embellishments that were currently on the market as many times the boxes came back with things that were so outdated that no one wanted them. Embellishments especially things like brads and eyelets have a longer shelf life.

Hello!

I'd be interested in joining the "Embellishment Box" train. I've got lots of things to share, just need to get a bit more organized in my scrapbooking/crafts room which is under construction now! I buy alot of stuff & just don't get enough time to use it all since I've gotta look for it.

I can't wait to be soo organized w/everything! My house is a mess DH has cabinets to finish putting up in the kitchen, we got from a friend of his who is remodeling there kitchen & I need more storage space. Maybe even use some of them in my scrapbooking/crafts room too!

In my scrapbooking/crafts room I have YAFFA BLOCKS stacked I think 3 cubes high w/the clear plastic drawers in some of the cubes! & DH used the old white cabinet door as the desktop on top of the YAFFA BLOCKS & we put my brother's old DELL PC there it only has Windows 98 on it & no internet access since he used dial-up & I've always had CABLE, but now I switched to VERIZON FIOS which is alot faster than my OPTIMUM ONLINE CABLE was. I thought I was going to get VERIZON DSL for $14.95 but when the guy got here he says what I ordered the FIOS is really good & he wished it was available in his area, since it was soo new to my area that is why I never heard of it until he installed it! He had alot of running new lines to my house, changing the outside box & also in my basement. I decided to put the D-LINK ROUTER down there & just use the wireless connection which works in every room of my house & even outside! So paying the $34.95 a month it's alot cheaper than $50 for CABLE & a better connection!

I have a few of the IRIS CARTS stacked 2 or 3 sets high just about up to the ceiling! I have those metal cubes that you build w/the snap on pieces to hook them together that TARGET sells, & also the stainless rolling shelves huge cart like they use in some stores to store foods on! I have some of my storage totes, the Navigator, CRICUT, SIZZIX, etc. & a few IRIS clear boxes.

I will take pics when I can see everything, right now there's a bunch of stuff in the way so it's a bit of a cluttered mess!

DH wants to put my Grandmother's buffet hutch cabinet in this room also so I have more table space & storage, not sure if it fits or not yet! It's really long w/a cabinet on each end & I think some drawers. It's still in the garage from when Ma moved in w/us!

I have a WHITE TREADLE SEWING MACHINE that's my Mom's & she lives w/us now but is currently in the hospital & then needs re-hab to walk again! She's been quite ill since Christmas! DH wants to also put that in there. Not to use but as a decoration thing if there's enough room! We were planning on adding onto our house but haven't done that yet!

ANDREA,

Creating a scrapbook room is a very exciting endeavor. And once you're organized you're going to love having a dedicated space to thnk, work, and be creative. Do post your pictures when you are done. If you need any ideas, others have posted pictures and descriptions too so just use the search box to find old threads and see if you don't find a way to organize something you were struggling with finding order for!

Thanks Melissa!

I have lots of old emails in my Gmail that I haven't had time to read & reply to when I 1st joined this group after doing some kind of GOOGLE search for something w/scrapbooking that's how I found this group! I can't remember now which product it was?

I bought a few of the RUBBERMAID OFFICE SOLUTIONS MINI-DRAWERS that stack up very similar to my IRIS CARTS!

Yeah scrapbooking supplies you can find now just about anywhere now!

I found these organizer drawers @ WALGREENS & RITE-AID I guess STAPLES has them too but I haven't been there in awhile!

Years ago I started out w/maybe a few paper punches like the heart, penguin, cat while @ some craft store in Wesbury while I bought myself a stamp pad & some art supplies for DH Mom for a gift!

Then while watching QVC when we lived in Bayville in an apartment I saw lots of kewl craft stuff, the envelope making kit by GREEN SNEAKERS & I'd use those few punches I had to add to the design of the envelopes, making cards also & then the BLO PENS, FISKARS PAPER SHAPERS SCISSORS I bought from QVC along w/some of the GALLERY GLASS KITS & used some of those stencils too making things like cards, shopping bags, etc.

Then my collection really grew when DH & I moved to Huntington & MICHAEL'S isn't too far from my house so usually I make a pit stop there while out doing errands, buying beer for DH, etc. as long as I have a 40% off or more coupon I buy something!

My 1st few CHRISTMAS presents I told DH what craft stuff I wanted & told him to use the coupon since the FISKARS paper shapers case was expensive about $40 & he also bought me some more of the paper shapers too! Now I have just about every single one there is out & GUESS WHAT? That case doesn't fit ALL of them! I need more space so I keep some of the other ones in a small IRIS drawer like shoe box size I bought while grocery shopping @ STOP N SHOP in Commack. I love this store found lots of foamy stickers, etc. there also. I have a few of them stacked on the stainless cart in my scrapbooking/crafts room!

I guess I do lots of CRAFTS since my Mom always was artistic & recycling junk into very kewl things! Using the leftover vinyl from the signs my brother made taking those scraps & a few paper towel, toilet tissue rollers, etc. she made according to whatever holiday it was a SANTA CLAUS for CHRISTMAS, etc.

She always made dolls of some sort & our church Bazaar always had a hand-made gifts tent which she donated lots of dolls to years ago. Making a doll on an old glass bottle w/the styrofoam wrap on it! A Jingle rag doll clown w/all these circles of different sizes sewn around the edges, then pulled then put bells on it!

Well I'm on my way out to AC MOORE in a bit & meeting a friend for lunch! While also doing some more errands outta my town!

Have A Great Day!
